The vineyard is waking up.
After a winter spent preparing the vines for the season ahead, the first leaves are finally beginning to unfold across our Central Otago vineyards.
These early days of spring are always filled with anticipation. As growth resumes and the vineyard comes back to life, we also enter one of the most delicate periods of the year, with frost protection ready to begin in the coming days.
Another vintage starts here.

The first signs of a new vintage.
The vineyard is slowly awakening. First buds appear, soon giving way to young shoots as the growing season begins.
Day by day, the vines come back to life.

It all begins with the soil.

In Bannockburn, ancient schist soils are part of what makes this corner of Central Otago so distinctive.

Free-draining and demanding, they encourage the vines to reach deeper for water and nutrients, helping shape the balance and character of the fruit.

Season after season, our work starts by understanding what lies beneath our feet and adapting to what the vineyard gives us.

This is Bannockburn from the ground up — shaping every vintage at Akarua.

Please drink responsibly.

94 points for the 2025 Akarua Chardonnay. 🍷
A wonderful accolade from Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, who praises this Chardonnay as “seductive, complex, intriguing, and full of youthful vibrancy.”
White fruits, stone fruits, and citrus blend with a subtle minerality, while a hint of salinity rounds out the finish.
This distinction celebrates the character of the 2025 vintage and the hard work our teams put in every day.
Thank you to Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, for this recognition.
Please drink responsibly.

One terroir. Three distinct expressions.
The same terroir gives rise to three distinct expressions. The Siren, our most exclusive cuvée, offers a more intense and profound interpretation. Chardonnay, for its part, stands out for its precision and mineral tension. Pinot Noir, fickle and demanding, reveals all its freshness and fruitiness.
Three w**es, one shared standard: that of a unique terroir defined by altitude, temperature variation, and schist soils.

Every tasting tells the story of a place.
Even at this stage, tasted straight from the amphora, the w**e already reveals its origin: a precise freshness, and a purity of fruit.
Long before it reaches the bottle, the imprint of the soil is already there, The schist soils of Central Otago, unique in New Zealand, absorb the warmth of the day and gently release it through the night, helping to shape the balance, ripeness and energy of our grapes.
Please drink responsibly.

Not so long ago, Pinot Noir was still a relatively young chapter in New Zealand's w**e story. Today, it has become the country's most widely planted red grape variety and one of its most celebrated w**es around the world.
This remarkable rise was made possible by the growers and w**emakers who recognised its potential long before international acclaim followed.
In Bannockburn, Central Otago, Pinot Noir has found an exceptional home for almost three decades. Here, dramatic temperature shifts and distinctive schist soils shape w**es of purity, vibrancy and intensity, with a character all their own.
On August 18, we celebrate the journey of this extraordinary grape.

Winter has settled over Bannockburn.
The vines stand bare beneath Central Otago's crisp skies, while pruning quietly begins across the vineyard. Patient and precise, each cut helps shape the balance and quality of the next vintage.
One vine at a time, winter lays the foundations for the season to come.

Honouring a career that has brought two w**emaking worlds together.
We are proud to share that Anne Escalle, General Manager of Edmond de Rothschild Heritage New Zealand, has been appointed Knight of the French National Order of Agricultural Merit by the French Embassy in New Zealand.
This prestigious distinction honours nearly three decades dedicated to the world of w**e. Throughout her career, Anne has built bridges between French w**emaking expertise and New Zealand's pioneering spirit, demonstrating that excellence is measured not only by the w**es themselves, but also by the way vineyards are cared for, teams are led, and the land is respected.
Today, Anne's leadership continues to shape Rimapere and Akarua, where the same commitment to authenticity, excellence and respect for New Zealand's remarkable terroirs guides every vintage.
Congratulations, Anne, on this well-deserved honour.
