Vintage 2024 in Europe is underway.

One of our Production Winemakers is working vintage in the Mosel Valley, Germany this year honing his craft.

Harvest started with picking a little bit of Pinot Meunier and Black Riesling for the wineries Sekt (German sparkling wine). The proper Riesling harvest doesn’t begin for another 10 days or so. Handpick was on a 45-degree slope overlooking the Mosel River, stunning views with a cardio workout !

A beautiful winters day in Marlborough saw snow fall to low levels; blanketing vineyards in the central Wairau Valley and covering the mountains behind the Waihopai Valley.

The Marlborough winter has been kind to our grape vines, providing a nice cool period setting the vines up for a successsful wine production year ahead.

Winner! The 2024 Tonnellerie de Mercurey Marlborough Young Winemaker of the Year is Nick Lamain 👏

Nick and the other contestants spent an exciting day putting their knowledge and skills to the test and then delivered an inspiring speech last night to finish off the days event.

We are very proud of Nick’s achievement and his passion and committment to Marlborough’s wine industry and now we look ahead to the National Final at the end of August.

Brilliant work Nick and good luck on your preparations for the final.

The Marlborough Young Winemaker of the Year Competition is tomorrow, Vinlink are excited to cheer on Nick Lamain, one of our young Production Winemakers.

The Young Winemaker competition aims to help ambitious and passionate young people to become future leaders of the NZ wine industry. It is a fantastic opportunity for emerging young winemakers to grow, develop and advance their careers.

It has been a busy year for Nick so far, and it is about to get more exciting with a European vintage in Germany starting in the coming weeks as well.

Vinlink Marlborough’s Cellar Hand - Gielie Jordaan

Gielie started at VinLink in December 2020 and is part of our hardworking permanent cellar team.

Originally from Sourth Africa with a Diploma in Winemaking, Gielie has worked in other large wine companies in Marlborough and has spent the last couple of vintages at VinLink as one of our Vintage Assistant Winemakers.

Outside of work he is an ardent sports supporter and spends time with family.

As we glide into the winter months, it may look like we are slowing down but on the contrary, both the vineyard and winery continue in the next stage of the winegrowing season.

Hard work continues in the vineyards with pruning and preparing for spring, and at the winery we are fervently finishing off blending and preparing for our first bottling in July.

With only a few vintage interns left helping us in post-production, we appreciate everyone’s efforts, especially working into these colder months.

Saying goodbye to vintage staff was hard.

After this year’s incredible recruitment response, we selected a diverse team to work with our diligent permanent team and our returnees.

Now we are focusing on postproduction and preparing wines ready to bottle in the coming months.

Last Friday we said goodbye to a few of our vintage staff and celebrated all their hard work over harvest on the weekend.

It was a very condensed vintage for us this year and we had an amazing team to help us through it.
