Auntsfield Estate

Auntsfield Estate Family owned, single vineyard sitting on rich clay soils of sunny Marlborough Auntsfield Estate is the home of Marlborough's first colonial vineyard and winery.

The original vineyard was established in 1892 and made highly regarded wine for over 50 years. The dramatic hillside vineyard with its unique variety of soils is again producing premium wines under the guidance of the Cowley family. The heritage of the land is the inspiration to produce exciting hand crafted wines of balance and individuality that display the special terroir of this historic Marlborough vineyard.

Harvest 2026 is just around the corner at Auntsfield ๐Ÿ‡

The winery team is gearing up, and next week weโ€™ll begin sampling grapes across each block of our vineyard. This is when the anticipation really kicks in- tasting berries straight off the vine, tracking sugar levels (ยฐBrix), measuring acidity, and watching flavours come alive.

These weekly samples guide our picking decisions and help us capture each block at its peak, ensuring balance, purity, and true site expression.

Auntsfield 'The Herd' Pinot Noir, 2023

A glossy, translucent deep ruby-red in colour. In the nose, inviting aromas of dark fruit, ripe plums, cherries, blackberries, dried herb, cocoa, toasted nuts & spice. On the palate medium bodied, concentrated flavours of slightly sweet, dark & red fruit reflecting the nose, refreshing acidity, nicely textured with silky tannins & subtle oak influence, providing complexity & depth. Long persistent dry finish. Excellent!

'The Herd' is a collaborative Pinot Noir project inspired by shared curiosity and an ongoing quest for true expression of terroir. Three winemakers, one vineyard, and an open invitation to explore how instinct shapes Pinot Noir. The first wine is from Auntsfield Estate.

RRP: $60.00 - https://theherdproject.co.nz/

Auntsfield is led by Luc and Ben Cowley, the brothers behind one of Marlboroughโ€™s most characterful and heritage-rich estates.

Luc, the winemaker, brings deep knowledge of the site, shaping wines with balance, structure, and character.

Ben oversees the vineyards, taking a practical, hands-on approach to farming and long-term vine health, ensuring the fruit reflects the character and heritage of Auntsfield.

Together, the Cowley brothers bring authenticity, craft, and a shared respect for history. Their work forms the foundation of The Herdโ€™s character and sense of place.

๐Ÿ“ Two brothers. One historic site. A deep commitment to Marlborough Pinot.
