πŸ€” How many people do you need to handle the finances in your business? 🀷

Nope, it’s not the start of a bad joke, like clowns in a car! It’s a genuine question because a lot of businesses are confused by the answer.

The roles that an Accountant and a Bookkeeper play in a small business are often confused. People assume that one of the two can cover everything you need, but that's not quite true. Each has specific skills and we are here to help explain:

🟒 What an Accountant does?
🟒 What an ICNZB Bookkeeper does?

πŸ“ What is bookkeeping? 🀷

"The activity or occupation of keeping records of the financial affairs of a business."

πŸ‘‰ Keeping an eye on your books and making sure your figures are correct each month is an important task, but it can be time-consuming. It is also a task that someone else can do for you - like an ICNZB Bookkeeper.

But how do you know when it's time to outsource your bookkeeping? Check out our top 5️⃣ signs to engage an ICNZB Bookkeeper here> https://www.icbnzbai.org.nz/news/general/5-signs-to-engage-a-bookkeeper/a/9770

End of Financial year is a good time to review your Trade Debtors (Accounts Receivable). If you have debts that are unrecoverable you can write them off in full or by using the provision method, Doubtful Debts. Writing off bad debts simply means that you acknowledge the loss has occurred.

Reach out to your bookkeeper or accountant to guide you through this process.

Tomorrow is 31st March, end of financial year for many. Are you prepared? A couple of things to get in order:-

* Review your Accounts Receivable and reconcile.
* Write off any bad debts that are unrecoverable.
* Stocktake
* Review your Accounts Payable and reconcile.
* Reconcile all your bank accounts and loans.

If you don't have time to do all this before it reaches your accountant, you could outsource to us to tidy up.

As more and more people are working from their homes we are often asked what they can claim. If you use a part of your house to work from, you are entitled to claim a portion of the following household expenses:

* Rates
* Home Telephone Line
* Electricity or Gas
* Rent if you rent your home
* Home and/or Contents Insurance
* Mortgage interest if you own the home.

You must, of course, keep the bills and receipts for the above. How much to claim is based on how much space you use i.e if your home is 100 square metres and your working space is 10 square metres, you would claim 10% of the expenses that are not solely for your business.

Owning a small business can be quite stressful, we are well aware of that. Here's a few little tips to make it easier:-

1. Outsource the things that you aren't good at.
2. If you have too much work, pass it on to someone else - delegate!
2. Take time out for a bike ride, walk or meeting friends for a coffee.
3. Don't be scared to ask for help.
4. Look after yourself, you are # 1 at the end of the day.

Are you still manually invoicing or quoting? How about getting a system that can quote and invoice digitally!

Not only would it streamline your business, but it would also help you get a better work/life balance having everything in the one place with auto reminders and much more, not to mention having everything in one place for end of financial year πŸ‘
