Business Update July
Signs of a Slow Climb — But Momentum is Building
________________________________________
Better Days Are Coming — and Some Are Already Here
It’s no secret the last couple of years have tested even the best-run businesses. Rising costs, interest rates, and softer spending have made things tough across the board — especially for small and medium-sized businesses who often carry the load without the cushion of big reserves or teams.
But lately, I’ve been having more conversations that feel different. Optimistic, even.
Across our BSP client base — from plumbers to joiners, engineers to service firms — many are telling us they're getting busier. New jobs are coming in. Clients are committing again. And, importantly, business owners are starting to feel like they can plan more than a month ahead. There are still struggles but there is a shift
And that shift matters.
The Tide Is Slowly Turning
The broader signs are lining up too.
Interest rates are starting to ease
Business confidence is cautiously lifting
Government infrastructure spend is rolling out
Rural and regional sectors are stabilising
That’s translating into a steadier pipeline of work for many trades and service businesses.
Of course, it’s not all smooth sailing — retail, hospitality, and other consumer-driven businesses are still finding things tight. But the overall message is encouraging we’re on the way up, even if the climb is a gradual one.
So, What Should You Be Doing Right Now?
Here’s some quick advice to get ahead of the curve:
Stay steady – Nail the basics: cashflow, quoting, delivery.
Look ahead – Map out what a strong 6–12 months looks like for you.
Be ready for demand – If you're getting busier, plan how to handle it without burning out.
Stay visible – As confidence returns, reputation and presence matter more than ever.
