This week at BNI Mahi Tahi, we heard from Jo Watson of Harrisons Flooring.

Jo shared her incredible journey - from working in the mines, to early childhood education, and now running Harrisons Flooring Canterbury alongside her husband, Chris.

Getting up in front of a room and speaking for 10 minutes is no small task, and like many of us, Jo started out a little nervous. But she delivered an excellent presentation that had the whole room laughing and fully engaged from start to finish. Awesome stuff Jo!

Today at BNI Mahi Tahi we heard from Ed van der Plas from The Milano.

This was Ed’s first presentation since joining, and it was a great chance to learn more about the man behind The Milano. He shared stories from his early days at St Bede’s, his time living and volunteering at a fire station, and how he and his wife Esme became a powerhouse team renovating homes in Auckland.

Those same skills have come to life in their stunning renovation of The Milano, the luxury motel at 87 Papanui Road. Esme’s eye for design combined with Ed’s craftsmanship has transformed it into a true “home away from home.” A beautiful example of teamwork, vision, and dedication.

This morning at BNI Mahi Tahi we heard from Merav Benaia from Matipo Garage.

Merav shared the story of her family, the origins & history of Matipo Garage, and gave us an inside look at some of the tools and equipment you’d typically find in a vehicle servicing workshop. Some items proved quite tricky to identify - including a turbo from a Mazda CX-5 diesel!

This morning at BNI Mahi Tahi we heard from Shona Mabon from Avonside House Trust.

Avonside House Trust is a residential care facility supporting people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.

Shona’s presentation was powerful - she shared insight into the serious challenges and injustices faced within the disability sector in the past, and how Avonside House Trust is changing that narrative.

Their focus is on empowerment, belonging, and creating an environment where every person is supported to chase their dreams.

Only 8 working days till Christmas 🎄

We celebrated last week by doing BNI’s rendition of the 12 Days of BNI.

This involved the room of 20 plus members busting out this Christmas rendition, a great way to start a Friday morning.

We can all safely say that we’re going to be keeping our day jobs as we wouldn’t have a successful career singing 🎤
