According to the Law of Similarity, elements that are visually similar will be perceived by individuals as related!

This is why Sudo-code uses consistent visual rules when designing websites so that individuals can easily understand and use our designs. Elements don't need to be identical, they can simply be the same colour, shape or size to be seen as related. When putting links on a website it's important that they are all the same colour so that users can distinguish between interactive and non interactive text. Additionally, colour can often signal a level of importance making it beneficial to use one colour for all primary call to actions. Size can also have an effect, creating a visual hierarchy.

Did you know a website has many moving parts? If you didn't, don’t stress because Sudo-code is here to explain the three main parts which make up a website!

Firstly, there is a frontend. The frontend is the way the user interacts with the website. Virtually, it is what your end user gets to see.

Secondly, there is the backend. This is where all the logic and complexity of a website is sorted. Essentially the backend acts as the brain of a website, receiving and facilitating requests from the frontend and then checking permissions before returning the appropriate data. The backend is also responsible for correctly handling logging in and security.

Lastly, a website has a database. This database is used by the backend to store and retrieve particular pieces of data that both the frontend and backend will use.

**Sudo-Code Update!!

Despite COVID-19 and lock down restrictions Sudo-code has still been hard at work! The beauty of designing websites and developing apps for clients, is that you can do it anywhere, at any time! With the introduction of level 2 last week it's great to have us all back in the office.

Our WopWop study slowed down over lockdown with the lack of commuting but now we’re back up and running and continuing to test all the different features. WopWop is progressing forward, just as we hoped, bringing the finish line closer and closer.

Stay tuned for more updates to come.

With the growing use and evolution of technology, the ability for users to hack your password is becoming easier and easier. That’s why Sudo-code has decided to give you guys some tips on how to create a safe and reliable password!

We recommend creating a password which is both long and contains a variety of numbers, uppercase/lowercase letters and symbols. The more characters your password contains, the longer it takes for a hacker to brute force your password. Any four or five character password can be hacked instantly. Even a password which has 8 characters and uses upper case letters, lower case letters and numbers can be hacked within an hour.

For the best result we recommend creating a password which uses numbers, uppercase/lowercase letters, symbols and is 11 characters. A password using this combination and length would take a hacker 400 years to brute force, keeping all your accounts safe for the period of your lifetime and a lot more!

So have another look at your passwords and make sure they are as safe as can be!

According to the Peak-End rule people typically judge an experience based on how they felt at its peak and end rather than the experience as a whole.

That's why when designing websites and applications Sudo-code focuses on these critical moments, prioritising the peak and end of the experience. People tend to remember negative experiences more vividly making it super important that the user experience is one which is positive. Positive peaks and great lasting impressions can be created through things such as convenience or cool interactive designs.

According to Miller’s Law the average person can keep up to only seven items in their working memory. That’s why here at Sudo-code we strive to keep our designs as simple as possible, so that users can remember the website for all the right reasons!

To create an effective website in accordance with Miller's Law we avoid including unnecessary tasks and elements, we utilise common design patterns, minimise choices available to users and focus on user readability. Together by focusing on these fundamentals we can significantly decrease the users cognitive load, focusing their attention on what's important and creating an all round better user experience.

WopWop update!!

With the launch of WopWop fast approaching, we want to make sure we have done everything to guarantee its success! To help ensure this success we are currently conducting WopWop trials to test the core functionality of the app and all its features. Each week we have been adding a new feature to the study, and we’re happy to report so far everything is going well! This week we set our participants the goal of getting 75 leaf points per day.

Keep an eye out for more posts to come!

Did you know that users typically best remember the first and last pieces of information on your website? This is what we call the serial position effect!

According to the Primacy and Recency Effect, items at the beginning and end of a website are more likely to elicit better recall. On the other hand items which are in the middle are stored less frequently in the working/long term memory. That’s why when designing a website, Sudo-code places the website's least important information in the middle, and places the most important at the beginning/end.

We want to make sure we are designing websites which are as memorable as they can be! Head to www.sudocode.dev to find out more about what we can offer you!
