Ceramics!!!

One of the features of nineteenth century ceramics in New Zealand is how colourful many of them can be. Transferware - that is, ceramic vessels decorated with underglaze transfer prints, designs quite literally transferred onto the unglazed pottery with a sheet of paper - are easily the most common

Congrats Kat, Jessie & Hayden on launch of this website. A very important Chch initiative and worth a follow!

SIA's TJ O'Connell presented at this Christchurch Heritage Festival event tonight. TJ joined a number of speakers at Kate Sheppard House telling stories of Christchurch's 19th century dark side as revealed by the city's archaeology. There are still many heritage related events happening throughout the month, we recommend you check them out!

Join four archaeologists for an evening of talks about some of the less salubrious aspects of Christchurch's history, as revealed by the city's archaeology.

Was great to attend the unveiling of three new pou whenua at Kura Tawhiti/Castle Hill this week. SIA provided archaeological support for upgrade works at this site, which were undertaken by a collaboration between Ngāi Tūāhuriri whānui and the Department of Conservation /Te Papa Atawhai (DOC). Have a look at the video link below to learn more about the upgrades including installation of the striking new pou whenua.
