In live healthcare environments, that is far too late.
Readiness needs to be considered from the beginning โ alongside staging, commissioning, staff workflows, clinical services, stakeholder communication and programme risk.
On complex projects, a smooth transition is rarely accidental. It comes from early planning, clear responsibilities, disciplined coordination and a shared understanding of what โreadyโ really means.
We saw this firsthand with the project support we provided to the recent Taranaki Base Hospital East Wing building - part of our wider work on Project Maunga.
We created a clinical commissioning programme with a wide range of client stakeholders, including extensive interfaces with the main contractor works. We worked with internal user groups and stakeholders that needed to be explicitly consulted and engaged through the construction process, and particularly through clinical commissioning.
