Miss 13 was/is (who knows, it's hard to keep up with the play lol) a big fan of Olivia Rodrigo. I'm not such a fan myself but hey the lights are on and burning brightly for the masses...
One of the songs we had on repeat for a while was her smash hit "Brutal". It's got a catchy chorus line - "God, it's brutal out here".
Talking to friends, clients and random retail workers it seems like it's brutal out here for a lot of businesses right now.
But it's fascinating watching all the socials especially the very bizarre world of LinkedIn - WTF is going on in that cesspit.
Everyone's crushing it!
Except they aren't.
You're possibly not either.
I know I'm not.
I know 2 people that just liquidated their businesses.
In fact I just got off a call with a client. A decade into his business, he's about a month away from having to shut up shop.
He's feeling it. The burden, the shame, the what ifs, the what the f**k now?!
When I first started in medical device sales I learnt about Sir John Charnley. He invented the modern hip replacement.
He needed to make a hip replacement to last longer than the patient did.
As said "it's a race between the implant and the patient, and at the minute the patient is winning."
And business is a bit like that. It's a race to see who lasts longest.
You or the cashflow.
If money was no object my client could keep going, but it is an object unfortunately.
It's a fine line between optimism and delusion.
Yeah, no one wants to hear your pity party, and all the positive psychology tells you to focus on the good in front of you, but how long do you fake it to try and make it before you ask for help?
Is it worth drowning with a smile on your face "it's fine, it's great!" or maybe worse getting the life jacket thrown after the event?
But how do you go about begging without begging, before you might end up actually begging lol.
If you are really drowning, you might need a dose of realistic optimism.
Ok, it's s**t. Let's recognise that and work a plan, not just keep high fiving yourself on the internet to the applause of the crowd.
If you're not crushing it right now, it's ok. It's brutal out here.
It's ok to ask for help, and if you want some help then maybe I can.
There's two ways I can do that right now.
If you need some community, support and energy then come check out The Grow Good Guild. For just $62.50 you can get started and see if it's what you need to get you going.
I'm also dusting off my sales/business development support options.
The #1 thing that the majority of the Guildsmiths are wanting help with right now is sales.
If that's what you need help with, I can be of some service - sales strategy, coaching, training (in NZ we can possibly get some co-funding for this) or even some sales doing for you.
If you are doing it tough and neither of those are what you need, let me know what it is that will make a difference as I probably know someone that can help.
Anyway I'm off to go high five LinkedIn ;-0
