Six months ago I had:

✅ A laptop
✅ A lifetime of experience
❌ A website
❌ A business plan
❌ Flyers
❌ QR codes
❌ Presentation folders
❌ Any clue what I was doing

Fast forward to today…
✅ Website live
✅ Discovery calls happening
✅ Numerology reports
✅ Home & Space Blessings
✅ Business consultations
✅ Flyers (with QR codes… very fancy 😎)
✅ Presentation folders
✅ Business cards
✅ Social media posts
✅ Lovely client testimonials
✅ A growing list of amazing humans I get to work with

And somehow… despite all the planning, spreadsheets, self-doubt, coffee, second-guessing, redesigning, rewriting, and the occasional chat with the Universe…

…it’s actually starting to look like a real business 😂

A little reminder (mostly to myself) that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you start. Sometimes it’s just one step, a bit of courage, and trusting that the path will meet you as you go.

Also, small confession… six months ago I spent a solid 40 minutes choosing a font for a website that didn’t even exist yet. Priorities were clearly thriving 🤣. No WordArt-style effects though… apparently that belongs back in the 2000s and was strongly discouraged 🤣

Looking back, the biggest surprise isn’t how much has changed…

It’s that six months ago I nearly talked myself out of starting at all. I was reminded today by someone very dear that I could have had this sooner if I’d just got over myself 🤣 … I’m listening now. 💙✨

Doorways - maybe our stories are data with a soul?

Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of sitting with many clients as they explored their charts, numbers, patterns, strengths, and life experiences.

What has struck me most is that beneath every chart is a human being carrying something tender.

A dream they have never spoken aloud.
A grief they thought they should be over by now.
A relationship that changed them.
A fear that they are somehow not enough.

A quiet knowing that there is more to their story than the life they are currently living.

The common theme hasn’t been the numbers.
The common theme has been vulnerability.

Recently, I came across a quote by Brené Brown that resonated deeply with me:

“Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

What struck me even more was the realization that when I first started Anam Cara back in 2017, I was writing about this very same idea. At the time, I didn’t fully appreciate how important that message would become.

It takes courage to look honestly at ourselves. To acknowledge both our gifts and our wounds. To stop running from the parts of our story we would rather not revisit.

I’ve come to realise that the numbers are rarely the destination.

They are the doorway.
A doorway into forgotten dreams.
A doorway into old wounds.
A doorway into strengths we have overlooked.
A doorway into understanding the patterns that have shaped our lives.

Again and again, I have watched people do exactly that.
Not because they are broken.
Not because they need fixing.

But because understanding ourselves is often the first step towards accepting ourselves.

Whether through numerology, conversation, reflection, or simply being witnessed, there is something powerful that happens when we stop hiding from our story and begin to honour it.

16 weeks in….
My sense of humour today is Anam Cara with a raised eyebrow — spiritual enough to light a candle, practical enough to check the insurance schedule, and sarcastic enough to know Mercury doesn’t need to be retrograde for people to be difficult.

Which feels about right, because behind the scenes at
Anam Cara this week has been less “soft launch” and more “spiritually aware circus with stationery.”

There has been website prep.

Endless website prep.

The kind where you think you’re just choosing a few words, and suddenly you’re questioning your entire business structure, your services, your About Me page, your tone of voice, your domain name, whether the word “consulting” feels too corporate, whether “soul friend” feels too mystical, and why choosing a www dot com address suddenly feels like naming a child.

We’ve written posts on grief, daylight hours, numerology, business teams, winter reflections, soul work, and the strange little spaces in life where everything is changing but you’re still expected to answer emails and order toner.

There have been charts.

Many charts.

Personal charts, business charts, team charts, timing charts, compatibility charts — enough charts that I now fully understand why ancient people looked at the sky and said, “Yes, but what does this mean for my spreadsheet?”

The printer has also joined the spiritual journey.

It now has opinions.

Not helpful ones, obviously. More like, “I sense you are trying to print something important, so I will now align with the energy of chaos.”

Very intuitive. Very unhelpful.

Pete is away, which means I am currently running solo. No chauffeur. No logistics department. No one to carry things, open doors, remind me where I parked, or look mildly concerned while I say, “It’ll only take five minutes.”

It never takes five minutes.

Especially when stationery is involved.

There have been decisions about paper, folders, document layouts, printing, website copy, service descriptions, business wording, and whether I need more pens.

The answer is yes. I always need more pens.

And somewhere in the middle of all of this, winter in the
South Island has apparently decided not to fully arrive. It keeps sending little warning emails — cold mornings, grey skies, the occasional dramatic breeze — but so far it hasn’t committed to the full seasonal takeover.

Honestly, relatable.

But underneath the humour, something is growing.

More conversations are happening.

More charts are being requested.

More people are asking questions, opening doors, and wanting to understand themselves, their timing, their relationships, their work, and the patterns that sit underneath it all.

And that part feels beautiful.

Messy, yes.

Slightly chaotic, definitely.

But beautiful.

So if the website takes a little longer, if the printer needs another spiritual intervention, if the stationery order becomes a personality test, and if I spend far too long deciding whether a sentence sounds like me…

That’s okay.

This is how things are built sometimes.

Not perfectly.

Not instantly.

But with humour, intuition, a raised eyebrow, and a growing sense that something meaningful is taking shape.

Anam Cara is growing.

One chart, one conversation, one post, one printer tantrum, and one domain-name decision at a time.
There’s still coffee, energy treats and the neighbours cat…
