A big congratulations from all of us at Horticentre to the newly crowned Young Grower of the Year for 2026, James Blair of AS Wilcox! 👏

Congratulations also to runner up, Amber Davy of Eurogrow and Amelia Marsden of Thomas Brothers, as third place getter.

Horticentre Technical Manager Jon Harris was onsite to put the contestants through the Nutrition and Fertigation module alongside local Technical Field Advisor, Mariette Morkel. Jon also had the honour of awarding James with the top honours.

The National Final brings the Young Grower competitions to a close for the year, well done to all who’ve put themselves forward for this event across the regions, we look forward to following your successes in the future. Well done to the organisers for again putting together excellent events across the country. The Horticentre Trust is very proud to support these events and in doing so, the future of the industry. đŸŒ±

We’ve been thoroughly enjoying the OWNZ Eco Vineyards Tour 🍇

Sponsored by the Horticentre Trust, the tour has already visited Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough, with Central Otago the next stop. Our organic viticulture specialists, Blake Herbison and Aaron Carter, have joined local winegrowers to learn from internationally recognised vineyard ecology expert, Dr Mary Retallack.

Thank you to everyone - growers, suppliers and Horticentre staff - who made the annual Horticentre Hawke’s Bay Grower Bowling such a success again in 2026!

32 teams of four growers along with around 20 suppliers and Horticentre staff gathered at Kia Toa Bowling Club this month to celebrate another season.

Big thanks to our many suppliers who generously supported the day with a huge range of prizes, much appreciated.

Congratulations to Katikati-based Kiwifruit grower William Kenna, recently awarded the Young Grower of the Year for Bay of Plenty!

Congratulations also to Aimee Barker-Gilbert of Hume Pack-N-Cool and Patterson Kelly of Trevelyn’s Pack and Cool, placed second and third respectively.

Orchard and Innovation Lead at his family’s business, KSKiwi, William will go on to represent his region at the National Final. We wish you all the very best, William.
