I’m seeing more cafés and restaurants opening right now with great ideas, and a lot of pressure underneath them.
The biggest risk I see isn’t lack of passion or effort. It’s complexity creeping in before the basics are solid: menu size, portions, prep time, and labour.
Most margin problems are locked in early. They’re not fixed by working harder later.

Wow! what a crazy few years we have had! global pandemic, lockdowns, no tourism so-to-speak, changing migrant worker regulations and restrictions, staff shortage, rising costs are but just a few of the challenges that have faced the hospitality industry. So many have fallen! We would love to talk about survival to those who are still here and or starting up.
To survive and or make it business strategy has evolved somewhat, we need to think outside the box and really be pro-active. Customers are demanding more! And quite rightly so, money is tight and eating or drinking out is expensive. So, why should people visit your establishment? This question is fundamentally the foundation of a great philosophy in hospitality. Give customers good reason to spend their hard earnt money with you! ‘’Why should they buy a burger at you place and not simply hit Macca’s, what makes your coffee more appealing than Starbucks?’’
This simple question leads to a real deep dive on your business and gets you thinking! Then ask yourself, how can we push this? how can we improve or really get things pumping? we know we have something to offer but the numbers aren’t adding up. Brainstorming and getting a solid professional and impartial view and suggested input will really give you the edge!
