On 28 July, Intermentis presented Soter at the Access Activator Showcase at Creative HQ in Wellington.
We were one of six organisations selected from 161 applications for the inaugural Access Activator programme from Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People, delivered in collaboration with Creative HQ.

We were pleased to present alongside the other five selected teams: Access Quest New Zealand, āheii, People First New Zealand’s Easy Read Mobile Library, INSiGHT Research Ltd / Autism Housing Toolkit Aotearoa, and Veera Access, each addressing different accessibility barriers across Aotearoa.

Whaikaha Chief Executive Paula Tesoriero PLY MNZM spoke about the importance of accessibility innovation grounded in lived experience and focused on real-world change, and we were pleased to meet Hon Louise Upston, Minister for Disability Issues, who joined the showcase and spent time with the teams.

We were also grateful to have guests from Office for Seniors - Te Tari Kaumātua, Blind Low Vision NZ, The TalkLink Trust, Home and Community Health Association and Summerset Retirement Villages join us for the event.

Thank you to Whaikaha, Creative HQ, the other Access Activator teams, our invited guests, our pilot households and everyone who has helped make this work possible.

For Soter, the focus now turns to the next phase: taking what we have learned through the pilot and working with the sector to move towards wider availability.

Soter’s pilot ended with a result we were very pleased with: all eight participating households wanted to keep using Soter.

Our next goal is to turn what we learned from the pilot into a commercial product, with a release currently planned for the first half of 2027.

Getting there will require further investment, and one of the most important things we can demonstrate to potential investors and partners is that there is real demand for Soter beyond the pilot.

That’s why reservations matter.

Soter can be reserved with a fully refundable NZ$100 deposit per device, with no commitment to proceed with a final purchase.

If Soter could be useful in your own home, for someone you support, or across homes in your organisation, you can learn more, see Soter in action and reserve here:

A huge thank you to Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People and Creative HQ supporting us through Access Activator, and especially to the pilot households, whānau and support people who helped us reach this point.

Two pictures are included in this post. The first shows Soter’s Alexa skill integration, providing another voice-based way for blind and low-vision users who already use Alexa devices to interact with Soter.
The second shows Soter integrated with a Bellman & Symfon flashing alert unit, which can alert Deaf and hard of hearing users to check the indoor unit for information about who is at the door and why they are there.

Would Soter be useful in your own home, for someone you support, or across several homes in your organisation?

Soter is our AI doorstep assistant, designed to help people manage visitors and keep occupants and their trusted contacts informed. People and organisations worldwide can now reserve priority access to Soter.

You can reserve one or more devices with a fully refundable NZ$100 deposit per unit. If you proceed with a final order, the deposit is credited against your devices. Founding customers who take a 12-month subscription will also receive up to NZ$300 off the hardware for each device.

Soter is still pre-launch, and we are currently aiming for a commercial release in the first half of 2027.

Visit our website to see Soter in action, hear directly from households in the Dunedin pilot, and read the full reservation details: https://www.intermentis.com
Feel free to share this post to anyone who may be interested in Soter, or who could benefit from a doorstep guardian.

On Tuesday, before presenting Soter at the Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People Activator showcase at Creative HQ in Wellington, we visited several organisations working across ageing, disability and community support.
One of the visits was to the national office of CCS Disability Action, where Raewyn Hailes hosted us for a discussion about Soter and what we have learned about front-door accessibility through the pilot.
We also shared the benefits being reported by households, including that every household would like to keep using Soter, and discussed how Soter may be relevant to the people and communities CCS Disability Action supports.
Thank you, Raewyn, for your time and the thoughtful kōrero.
