Are you a sole trader and wondering if Hnry is right for you? Here's a professional's opinion...

Pros:
* Good if you struggle to put money aside for tax throughout the year and don't want to learn hot to easily do this yourself
* Good if you have a strong knowledge of business finance acumen to raise the correct expenses on time
* Good if you have very consistent invoicing month to month (they don't help you budget for fluctuating income)

Cons:
*The 1% fee is quite steep - it's based on revenue (pre expenses), so if your business turns over $120k even though you only earn $60000, you're paying $1200 +GST in fees
* A bookkeeping package with a trained professional like me to do GST returns, annual tax return AND coaching on managing your cashflow, budgeting and improving your business (including a subscription to Xero software) would be about $950+GST - less if your business is simple.
* If you have staff you need a separate payroll software (a bookkeeper can manage this for you)
* Covers tax obligations but doesn't help you improve your business or plan for profit (this can actually go quite wrong if you don't raise expenses on time Hnry can deduct much more than needed)
* Can't earn interest on your tax saved throughout the year
* You need a fair amount of finance knowledge to benefit from home office and depreciation expenses

Honestly, it's a no-brainer. Work with an actual human professional bookkeeper who can help you with the big picture - not treat you like an employee by pulling tax out of your invoices.

Processing out loud…

I got some news in my business today that I didn’t love. Part of it is my fault and so part of me wants to feel guilty and grumpy that I didn’t do more. My mind tells me this failure means all the other similar projects are doomed.

So I had a little cry.

I don’t like feeling this way. So I’ve been wondering how I want to feel instead, how I want to approach this (and doing a few physiological sigh breaths as I do - IYKYK).

A few people popped into my mind that I can ask for help. That seems smart.

Taking a minute to process here is making me think about it differently. Less wallowy.

This happens in business. Knockbacks and tricky days.

I have learned so many methods to help me be resilient and work through the disappointment.

Thanks for being my witness. I needed it today :)

I have been elbows deep in end-of-year-accounts for my clients today and I’m absolutely loving it.

Also, this week, my clients and I have been talking about PROFIT and working with their real-live cash money to plan for it. Not “accounting profit” that shows on your end-of-year statements but never seems to hit your bank account.

Paying tax is great because it means your business is making money. Managing that money so you get to pay yourself, always have what you need to cover tax bills and build a sustainable business… yaaaaaaas!

Honestly, I don’t know why so many business owners settle for once-a-year financial support. Working hands-on alongside my clients, supporting them regularly is so fun. They tell me it makes them feel so much less anxious and like they know what’s going on in the business.

Anyway, if you’re not as excited about tax time as I am, please come along to my tax-time tune up workshop on 21 Mar. We’re going to play together and get everything you need sorted with plenty of time to create a wee savings a plan to cover any payments.

Ooof, seriously, come along because financial empowerment is hot.

Did you know I used to work at the bank as a loan specialist?

It's one of those things I forget to mention. I'm actually a huge nerd when it comes to money and budgeting. I love doing my business accounts and dreaming with my cash flow.

I've been coaching and consulting on creativity and business for nearly 5 years now and I've really enjoyed turning up the volume on the financial management side of things.

I've up-skilled as a bookkeeper and Xero certified advisor and I'm seeing great results with clients already who are getting out of debt, managing their cash flow and feeling confident in their personal financial position.

I'm going to be sharing some of my hacks and processes over the next few months in a financial workshop series on the West Coast.

The first one happens in a few weeks.

Not everything needs to change, BTW.

I drink more tea than the average person. I drink tea in excess. And I don't want to change that.

There's a difference between choosing to do something for whatever reason and doing it by default.

I trust you to know the difference.

I trust you to hear my messaging about changing and apply it onyl to changes you actually want to change.
