Tēnei te mihi ki a koutou i runga i te āhuatanga o te wā.

He paku pānui tēnei! We will be co-hosting a hui with Whaikaha on the newly refreshed disability strategy and it is happening this Tuesday 16 September 2025, 6:00–8:00 pm.

Attending from Whaikaha will be CE Paula, Kaihautu Māori Ronelle, tōku whanaunga a Geneva (Māori engagement) and Ken Te Tau (Māori advisor) to talk about their strategy and are asking for our thoughts/feedback on it!

Just sending this message out for those that are available to attend, merely to ensure the voices of our whānau are heard! All details can be found here and hopefully we see you there!

Papaki tu ana nga tai o Tokerau 🌱 We had the privilege to return home to Te Pu o Wheke ki Te Tai Tokerau to wānanga and kōrero with Kaiako from Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe. It’s always special going home to see and hear the mahi that whānau and kaiako are doing despite the challenges they face as isolated rural communities and the collective approach to raising and supporting our taonga Takiwātanga 💚

At Kanorau we have dedicated Kaiārahi to support whānau. The role of the Kaiārahi is to provide whānau support, quality information, advocacy and act as the bridge between whānau and the system.

Our very first whānau get together held last week in Kirikiriroa 🌱 It’s such a privilege to share stories, challenges and insights with other whānau on similar journeys and most importantly make and build connections with whānau 🫶🏽 Here’s to the first of many 🌱

We have been extremely fortunate to participate in some awesome kaupapa - one recently being the whānau ora symposium in Te Wai Pounamu. We had the privilege of speaking on a tāngata whaikaha panel with some rangatira within the whaikaha community that have been doing this mahi for years. We want to send a big mihi to Te Putahitangi for believing in our big goals and dreams of wanting to support whānau, for wanting to transform the disability system and educate professionals who support our taonga and to most importantly to empower whānau. We realise the importance of the mahi at Kanorau, but sometimes that requires us to think outside of takiwātanga. E kore e ārikarika i ngā mihi ki a koutou

A couple of weeks ago Kanorau held their first wānanga in Waikato at Kaitumutumu Marae. It was an awesome day filled of rich kōrero and attended by whānau and professionals eager to learn and develop their understanding around takiwātanga. E mihi ana ki a koutou kua tae ā tinana mai ki tēnei wānanga. Now it is your turn to plant the seeds of mātauranga within your different spaces 🌱

Our Te Tai Tokerau wānanga scheduled for 10 June 2023 is just around the corner! NEW DATE: 27 May 2023

A new date has now been confirmed for the Waikato Takiwaatanga Waananga. The waananga will be held this SATURDAY, MAY 27 2023 at Kaitumutumu Marae from 10am - 4pm.

We wanted to express our gratitude for the support and understanding during what was a tough week for us last week as had to postpone our wānanga.

We know a number of whānau were unable to attend the waananga last weekend so please feel free to register if you are now able to attend, we will open registrations until Thursday.

If you have already registered and did not receive the confirmation email sent out on Monday then please send us a message.

We are looking forward to meeting everyone this weekend and have a jam packed day of awesome kaupapa 🌱
