A staff issue has landed on your desk. You know something needs to happen, but you're unsure what the right next step is.

We help managers and business owners navigate people issues at any stage of the process. You might be at the very beginning and want to make sure you're heading down the right path. You may already be partway through and need a sounding board, practical support, or help getting things back on track.

Often, employers know what outcome they're aiming for but aren't sure what needs to happen legally and procedurally to get there. We help make the process clear, compliant, and manageable.

Alongside expert advice, we provide practical tools such as meeting guides, letter templates, and employment documentation to support each step.

Our team of People & Culture Specialists (Greg Cateley, Beverly Birnie, Ty McDonald, Diane Hallifax), are here supporting businesses with practical, fair, and compliant advice at every stage of the employment relationship.

Current conditions at Everest People:
🌡 Outside: Winter 🌡 Inside: Also winter

With the office's air conditioning out, Rachel has resorted to a dressing gown and Morgan has formed an emotional attachment to a hot water bottle. Small heaters and blankets are now some of the most sought-after items in the office.

To be fair, most of the team are handling it perfectly well. Unfortunately, they aren't nearly as entertaining to photograph 😉

The good news is our dedication to clients appears to be producing a measurable amount of body heat!

Employment law never stands still, and neither do our clients.

At this last week's client only Employment Express session, Vicki Campbell from Equilibrium Legal took us through some of the key developments shaping New Zealand workplaces, including proposed leave law reforms, AI and confidentiality risks, constructive dismissal, workplace values, and employee obligations.

Thank you Vicki for another engaging and thought provoking session, and thanks to our clients for joining us! We always enjoy creating opportunities to learn, share ideas, and hear directly from experts on the issues affecting today's workplaces.

Today the Matariki star cluster rises, and with it, the Māori New Year begins.

It's a time built around three simple things: remembering those we've lost, being grateful for what we have now, and looking ahead with hope for what's coming.
At Everest People, that feels close to home. Our work is about people after all, so this time of year is a nice reminder to actually slow down and be present with the ones around us.

However you're spending the long weekend, whether that's with whānau around a fire, watching the stars, or just having a well-earned sleep in, we hope it's a good one.

Manawatia a Matariki, from all of us at Everest People.

Who can resist a piece (or three) of delicious homemade shortbread?

We're incredibly lucky to have Maureen (aka Diane Hallifax's mum!) keeping the Everest team well supplied with her legendary baking. Her fruit loaf is always a hit, but it's fair to say the shortbread has developed quite the fan club (this photo does not do it justice btw).

We're pretty sure those extra laps around Waikato Innovation Park count as a balanced approach to wellbeing... right? Thanks Maureen your baking never lasts long around here!

Who's the provider of office treats in your workplace? Give them a shout out!

The Everest team is locked in and ready for Saturday's final. Flags out, Chiefs gear on, and the whole Waikato cheering them home.

A small donation can go a long way.

We’ve got a Dress For Success Hamilton NZ clothing donation bin in the foyer of the FMG building at Waikato Innovation Park Limited.

Dress for Success Hamilton do incredible work supporting Waikato women with work appropriate clothing and practical tools to help them step into employment with confidence. They're on track to dress 350 Waikato women this year for free through their service, with demand continuing to grow.

If you’ve got gently used pieces sitting in your wardrobe, this is a simple way to give them a second life and support someone in our local community - they’re currently in need of items like handbags and boots, so if you’ve got any to spare, they would be especially appreciated!

Do you know your way around a full take off, from drawing set through to final account?

ICE Interiors is a well-established commercial fit out specialist with a strong reputation across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato. They are looking for an experienced QS Estimator who understands interiors systems and can price work confidently and independently.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You will be across the full process, from early stage pricing through to final account, working closely with the project team.

If that sounds like your kind of role, get in touch with Recruitment Partner Helen Dale or apply via the link below:

One of the hardest things about sharing testimonials from conflict resolution work? Most people don't want to publicly admit they've been in conflict with a colleague. And we completely understand that.

When someone takes the time to share their experience, we anonymise it to protect their identity. That willingness to share means a great deal, and it's a reminder of why this work matters.

"I wanted to acknowledge you for your mediation with our last meeting together. I was quite impressed by the way that you navigated us from a 'frosty' start, to a more cohesive finish.

Since that meeting the relationship between my colleague and myself seems quite transformed: our communication has opened up so much, and I am developing a much better understanding of their role, and also feel that we are finally working together as a team. I am amazed and pleasantly surprised at what those meetings with you have achieved, and I have a much better feeling about continuing to work together."

Mediation isn't about assigning blame. It's about creating a space where people can actually hear each other, often for the first time.

If you or your team are navigating a difficult working relationship, we'd love to talk about how we can help. Connect with Jean Schoultz for a confidential chat.
