CRV NZ

CRV NZ CRV’s business is built around one goal: helping dairy farmers achieve their highest performing herd possible. They also have different business goals.

Our customers run their farms under many different conditions and farming systems. One thing all farmers have in common is a focus on developing a high performing herd. Working with the CRV team provides dairy farmers with:
* Insight into genetic performance and capability
* A range of products and services to suit individual needs
* Access to world-class expertise and support

We have been le

ading the way in innovative herd management in New Zealand for over 50 years, providing services and products that benefit both our customers and the New Zealand dairy industry as a whole.

Volatility is part of farming, and it creates an opportunity to think ahead and invest in technologies that build greater resilience.

Genetics is one example. By using genomic technology to identify and breed from their best animals earlier, farmers can accelerate genetic gain and develop cows that are better equipped to deliver strong on-farm results.

Our Managing Director James Smallwood explains why investing in better cows now can help build a more resilient herd for the future.

The more animals we DNA test, the more reliable genomic information becomes for every farmer.

CRV has long used genomic testing within its own breeding programme to make confident decisions about which animals have the greatest genetic potential.

As more animals are added to our reference population, that reliability will continue to grow. And that helps dairy farmers make better breeding decisions, earlier.

Up today for us to introduce is "PURIRI MAGNUM STRIKER" or "Handbrake".

Striker is a big foodie, one of the best parts of his day. He also loves his work, also one of the best parts of his day.

Likes 😃 - absolutely loves a good scratch from the team, they’re basically there to make sure he gets his daily quota of pats 💆🏻

Dislikes 😡 - you know how we said he likes work? Well he doesn’t like to leave the collecting barn.. really digs his toes in and would prefer to stay there. Could be where that nickname Handbrake came from 🤔

If you want to see Handbrakes official stats and figures, so can see them here: https://shop.crv4all.co.nz/en/sire/dd3f2827-8b4d-4d3d-b137-57a8e999800e-puriri-magnum-striker

More farmers are using myDNA testing, which is lifting the reliability of genomics for the whole industry.

CRV myDNA Programme Manager Connie McFarlane joined Anne Lee on the Dairy Country podcast to chat about how growing DNA testing uptake is feeding better genetic information into breeding models, increasing the reliability of breeding values and genetic indexes along the way.

She also gives a 101 on DNA testing and explains how an estimated 1 in 4 calves are mismothered on dairy farms — exactly why more farmers are turning to DNA testing.

Have a listen:

DNA testing is transforming dairy breeding by giving farmers greater confidence in parentage and allowing more accurate genetic information to be fed into breeding models. More farmers are myDNA testing which lifts the reliability of genomics and helps farmers make better breeding decisions earlier.

CRV has seen a 57% increase in myDNA testing which lifts the reference population and pushes up the accuracy for genomics.

A calf's parent average index, such as BW or NZMI, typically carries a reliability of 30-35%. DNA testing lifts that reliability to 60-65%. That means you get the same information when a calf is just days old - which is the equivalent to about five herd tests when they get into the herd.

Talk to your CRV consultant about rates to myDNA your herd and ask them about our new ROI calculator to see what myDNA could add to your herd.
