A couple of days ago, I had a wonderful opportunity of attending the Nawamini celebrations. Nawamini is a wonderful celebration of Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage, reflecting centuries of tradition, values, art, music, dance, and community spirit.

Events like these help preserve our cultural identity while sharing its beauty with future generations and the wider multicultural community. In a country as diverse as New Zealand, cultural festivals such as Nawamini strengthen understanding, respect, and friendship among people of different backgrounds.

Culture is not merely a reflection of our past; it is a bridge that connects generations and communities. Through Nawamini, we celebrate not only the heritage of Sri Lanka but also the shared values of family, respect, compassion, and togetherness that enrich our society.

I wholeheartedly congratulate the organizers, volunteers, performers, and participants for their dedication in keeping these treasured traditions alive.

May Nawamini continue to inspire pride in our heritage and foster unity, harmony, and cultural appreciation for many years to come.

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to attend a Festive Mela in Hamilton. Attending a Festive Mela is always a vibrant way to connect with diverse cultures, enjoy performances, food, and community spirit, especially when organized by groups like Korero with Vaishali and Rudra Entertainment, who are known for promoting cultural unity and celebration.

Whitiora School in Hamilton seems like a great venue for such a gathering. That was a wonderful experience meeting our communities.

I want to begin by saying thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your unwavering support, belief, and encouragement have meant the world to me throughout this journey.

While the results may not have met our hopes, I hold my head high with gratitude and pride. We gave all our energy, our passion, and our belief for a better future. Though we didn’t achieve the outcome we aimed for, we gained something even more valuable - experience, perspective, and unity.

I understand the disappointment that many may feel. The results reflect the current mindset and priorities of the people. Yet I take this as a valuable insight, not with bitterness, but with humility and hope.

This campaign was never just about winning an election. It was about standing up for what we believe in, building something together with faith, determination, and unity. And on that front, we have achieved so much.

I am truly humbled by the trust you placed in me. Your support has only strengthened my resolve to keep working, learning, and serving.

Thank you for walking this path with me. This is not the end, just a new beginning.

As we enter the final week of the election campaign, I’ve been actively working alongside our communities and supporters with the shared goal of securing a majority of votes to bring about meaningful and positive change within the Waikato Region.

However, in recent days, I have been disheartened to witness instances of inappropriate and disrespectful behaviour. Some of my campaign banners have been defaced with graffiti, including offensive remarks and imagery.

Such actions are disappointing and do not reflect the values of respect and civility that most of us uphold in our community. I believe we can disagree without resorting to destructive behaviour.

To those responsible, I urge you to refrain from such actions and to engage in this democratic process in a respectful and constructive manner.
