SHW7 Lewis Pass closed from Lochiel Station to Springs Junction from 7pm to 7am overnight due to high risk slip. Road from Hanmer Springs to Christchurch is not affected.

A whole heap of blood, sweat, and tears has gone into resurrecting the QMH Soldiers’ Block and I am so hopeful it isn’t our local kids trying to break in and ruin the place. I had an alert from our alarm system for the second night running this weekend so we will assume it is out of towners! Just on the slight chance it may be local kids - Hanmer parents, can you give your children a wee reminder of the importance of respecting our village culture and heritage buildings and encourage them to stay away from the QMH Buildings - especially the Soldiers’ Block. Heaven help anyone I catch breaking into that building! I’m unlikely to show them any mercy.

VACANCY - SECURITY GUARD

We have a position available for a Security Guard to monitor and respond to property alarm activations in the village and carry out enforcement tasks such as noise control and animal control on behalf of the Hurunui District Council. This work is part time but can be supplemented with other work within the company if required.

The role requires a person to be on-call for five nights per week inclusive of weekends.

VACANCY - PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

We have a position available for a friendly Parking Warden to monitor, educate and enforce parking in the village. This work is for 3 hours during the day each Saturday and Sunday and can include weekdays during holidays if you are available. The role requires someone with a friendly, yet firm disposition who is able to walk the village streets and educate our visitors (and a few of the locals).

This role can also be incorporated with other work available within the company if more hours are required.
