We’ve made a formal submission on the proposed changes to employment leave entitlements. Thank you to those who contributed!

This Bill has real implications for employers in terms of cost, complexity & system readiness. Our submission focuses on what will actually work in practice, not just what works on paper.

If you’re an employer, advisor, or just want to understand the practical impacts, you can read our full submission here:

IPP3A is nearly here — are you ready?

From 1 May 2026, if you collect employee or candidate info from someone else, you’ll need to tell them who has it, when, and why. Think vetting and references, payroll/HR providers, CCTV/GPS/time systems, and your IT or accounting partners.

We’ve wrapped IPP3A and other key employment law changes into plain‑English checklists so you know what to tackle now vs what can wait.

Take a look at our recent blog for the full update and if you're short on time, you may want to start with the quick checklist we've put together. You'll find both on our website, link below 👇

We’re proud to support Jammies 4 June Out and about with kids in Hawkes Bay each year, and have made a donation to help keep local Hawke’s Bay kids stay warm, safe and snug this winter.

If you’re able, we encourage you to support this amazing initiative too, it’s a simple way to make a real difference within our community 💙

Dear Jammies supporters.

20,000 warm items for children and 1,000’s of newborn baby items 💥💥
That’s what this beautiful Hawke’s Bay community helped me distribute last year through Jammies4June — all organised from my garage thanks to all of you 💥

So it’s that time of year again, and I’ve launched Jammies4June a little earlier than usual because the need across Hawke’s Bay is already very high.

This drive takes many months to run, and I simply couldn’t do it without the kindness of people like you.

If you are able to help again this year, I would be incredibly grateful.
If you’re not in a position to donate, please don’t worry at all — sharing this post helps more than you know.

Around $10 can purchase a pair of pyjamas, and together with the beautiful knitting from our wonderful volunteers — blankets, slippers, beanies and more — it helps keep children warm and reminds families that their community cares.

Teachers and social workers often tell me that when children are warm they sleep better, stay healthier, and are able to learn and play with confidence.

This message is also simply to say thank you for the support you have given in the past. None of this happens alone, but together many small acts of kindness create something incredibly powerful.

If donating it not possible this year I understand... if it is or you can share thank you. Most of all I thank you for being part of my core team over so many years. You have helped immensely.

If you would like to donate directly:

Account Name: Out and About with Kids in Hawke’s Bay
Account Number: 03-0698-0143424-000
Reference: Jammies4June

With heartfelt thanks,
Gabby Allen

💙 Please feel free to share 🙏🏽

Reminder: KiwiSaver changes from 1 April 2026 📢

A quick heads‑up for employers - what’s changing?

✅ 16–17 year olds will become eligible for employer KiwiSaver contributions if they meet the usual eligibility requirements and are contributing, the same way adult employees are

✅ The minimum employer contribution rate increases to 3.5%, unless an employee has an approved temporary rate reduction
This doesn’t mean under‑18s must join KiwiSaver, but it does mean employers need to be ready to contribute if they do.

Now is a good time to check payroll settings, employment agreement wording, and make sure managers understand the change before April.

Employment law has changed — but this isn’t a rush‑to‑act moment.

The Employment Relations Amendment Bill is now law, introducing new rules around contractors, high‑income employees, trial periods and collective agreements.

The direction is clear, but the detail matters — and moving too fast could create unnecessary risk. We’ve outlined the key changes and where it pays to pause and get advice before making any moves.

Yesterday we had the privilege of welcoming Hon Brooke van Velden to Grow HR for an insightful discussion on upcoming employment law reforms, following her session with the Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce.

We shared what local employers are facing right now, from the rising cost of defending employment matters to challenges around medical certificates and the practical implications of recent case law.

It’s encouraging to see the Minister engaging directly with businesses and focusing on clear, workable solutions for employers.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as reforms progress through Parliament. The Select Committee report for the Employment Relations Amendment Bill is expected next month so watch this space for an update on that early in the new year!
