There’s something about speaking to Year 13 students that takes you right back.
That strange in-between stage of life where you’re expected to know what comes next, but you’re still figuring out who you are.
Too old to be a kid. Too young to feel like an adult.
And somehow meant to have a five-year plan, a career path, and all your ducks lined up neatly in a row.
Spoiler alert: I did not.
At 17, I changed my mind more times than I changed hairstyles - and given this was the 90s, that’s saying something.
But looking back now, I can see that the confusion, the uncertainty, the moving around, the not quite fitting in… all of it was quietly building something in me.
Adaptability.
Independence.
Perspective.
Resilience.
Not in a dramatic “movie montage” kind of way. Just slowly, through everyday life.
So if you’re standing on the edge of what’s next, whether you’re 17, 37, 57 or somewhere in between, maybe take a little pressure off yourself.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You might just be becoming more capable than you realise.
