Slope Stability
A slope stability geotechnical investigation is undertaken where sloping ground, existing instability or proposed earthworks may affect the safety or suitability of a development. The assessment typically considers slope geometry, soil and rock conditions, groundwater and drainage, evidence of past or active movement, and the potential effects of excavation, filling or retaining structures.
The findings help identify potential slope-related risks and provide recommendations to support safe development of the site. Where issues are identified, appropriate measures such as drainage improvements, retaining structures, earthworks, slope regrading or other stabilisation works can be considered. Identifying these issues early can reduce construction risk and allow remediation or design changes to be incorporated before work begins.
Slope stability assessments may also be required to support Resource or Building Consent applications, address Council requests for further information, or satisfy consent conditions relating to land instability, earthworks or natural hazards. Depending on the complexity of the site, investigations may range from a site walkover and shallow testing through to deeper investigation, monitoring or detailed stability analysis.
At RDA Consulting, our local experience helps us provide practical geotechnical advice suited to the site, proposed development and consent requirements. If you are planning work on or near sloping ground, or have concerns about existing slope movement, get in touch with our team to discuss your project.
