Free green waste and scrap metal drop-off this weekend 🥳

If you’re still clearing up after the storm, you can drop off green waste and scrap metal for free this weekend.

Thanks everyone for your patience while we organised this collection. There will also be a free green waste drop-off in Bluff later this month - details coming soon.

Green waste drop-off - 351 Bond St:

🗓 Saturday 15 November: 8am–6pm
🗓 Sunday 16 November: 9am–6pm
⏰ Last entry to the queue each day is 5.30pm.

Access is from the south end of Bond Street via Bluff Highway/Clyde Street. You will not be able to join the queue from the north end. Only light vehicles and residential trailers will be accepted.

Scrap metal drop-off

Clean scrap metal (like corrugated iron, clotheslines or trampolines with no attachments) can also be dropped off for free at these locations:

Saturday 15 November
📍 Phoenix Recycling Group – 9am–4pm
📍 Habitat for Humanity (Bond St) – 8am–6pm
📍 ISM – 8am–10am & 10:15am–12pm

Sunday 16 November
📍 Kiwi Skips – 10am - 4pm
📍 Habitat for Humanity (Bond St). – 9am–6pm

These free drop-off areas are separate from the transfer station. If you take them to the transfer station, normal fees will apply. We'll share further details on our website tomorrow

We are open!! Please be patient with our staff! We can only take a certain amount of metal to be recycled… once our bins are full, we can’t take anymore till Monday, Thanks.

Bin collection CANCELLED tomorrow ⚠️

Due to the expected strong winds, WasteNet has made the tough call to cancel bin collections scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 23 October.

Please do not put out your bins.

This decision follows advice from Emergency Management Southland, with extreme winds forecast over the next 24 hours. We need to put everyone's safety first.

Unfortunately, because of the long weekend, there will be no alternative collection. Bins will be emptied next Friday (a day later due to Labour Day).

All district-wide transfer stations and the regional recycling centre will remain open and operating as normal.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
