The new Kāeo Bridge on State Highway 10 opened to two-way traffic over the weekend, earlier than expected! If you've had a chance to use the bridge, we hope you've enjoyed the safer and easier travel.

You’ll notice some work continuing on the project including finishing the roundabout and demolition of the old bridge—take extra care while everyone is adjusting to the new road layout and follow any signage you see.

The new bridge will make it safe and easy to move through the intersection and will improve the experience for everyone—regular travelers, visitors, and freight. It’s been a long time coming and the day is finally here! As of the time this post is public the New Kaeo Bridge will be open on both lanes to the public. There will still be a temporary 30KmH speed limit through the site for the time being as works are not fully completed yet but now at least we don’t have to worry about permanent traffic lights.

SH1 BRYNDERWYN HILLS - DETOUR OPTIONS

To enable critical restoration work on the Brynderwyn Hills, State Highway 1 will be CLOSED between Brynderwyn and Waipu (in both directions) from midnight (11:59pm), Sun 25 Feb until midnight (11:59pm), on Wed 27 Mar, subject to weather and other factors. Following reopening for the Easter period, this section of SH1 will close again from midnight (11:59pm), Tue 02 Apr until midnight (11:59pm), Sun 12 May.

During these closure periods alternative scenic routes to be used have been made as safe and as high quality as possible. These detour routes are now confirmed as:

- Light Vehicles via either Mangawhai (using Cove Rd between Kaiwaka & Waipu, not suitable for trucks with trailer units) or via Paparoa and Mangapai (using Paparoa Oakleigh Rd between Brynderwyn & Oakleigh, HMPV's are restricted on this route).

- The preferred detour for Heavy Vehicles is using SH12 & SH14 via Dargaville (HPMV's must use this route).
