🌟 Project Spotlight | New Build - Eskdale Road, Porirua 🌟

We are proud to look back on another successful residential project completed in 2025, where Seismic Solutions provided both the structural engineering design and construction monitoring for this modern two-storey IZODOM family home in collaboration with GreenHAUS Architects.

Our structural engineering scope included:
✔️ Car deck foundation design
✔️ Dwelling foundation design
✔️ IZODOM bracing wall design
✔️ Subfloor bracing design for car deck
✔️ Timber pole retaining walls
✔️ IZODOM retaining walls with tied-back anchors
✔️ SED lintels and beams
✔️ Suspended Hibond floor system

From the initial design through to completion, we worked closely with the project team to deliver a practical, cost-effective solution that satisfied our client's vision while considering the site constraints.

It is always rewarding to revisit completed projects and see the finished result standing as intended. A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project to life.

🌟 Project Spotlight | Douglas Park School, Masterton 🌟

At Seismic Solutions, we're proud to have contributed to numerous school projects across New Zealand, from new buildings to alterations and upgrades. Supporting learning environments is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do, helping create safe, functional spaces for today's students and future generations.

One project we're particularly proud to highlight is the alteration works completed at Douglas Park School in Masterton in 2024, working alongside Ruruku.

The objective of the project was to create a more open and flexible learning environment within the existing school building. Achieving this required the removal of existing bracing walls, creation of new openings and glass partitions, while maintaining the structural integrity of the building.

Our structural engineering scope included:

✔️ Design of new wall bracing
✔️ Design of supplementary 150PFC steel portal frames
✔️ Design of associated fixings and structural connections
✔️ Construction monitoring throughout the works

The new steel portal frames enabled the removal of load-bearing walls while creating the open spaces envisioned by the design team. New light timber-framed walls were also incorporated to suit the updated layout.

Although our scope was relatively focused, projects like these demonstrate how thoughtful structural engineering can help transform existing buildings to better meet the needs of schools and their communities.

We're delighted with the finished result and grateful to have played a part in delivering another improved educational space.

🌟 Project Spotlight | Knights Road Residential Development 🌟

Completed in early 2025, this multi-unit townhouse development on Knights Road in Lower Hutt is one of the residential projects we're proud to have contributed to, working alongside Palmer and Cook Developments.

Seismic Solutions provided the structural engineering design for a range of elements across the development, including the foundation systems, SED wall framing, wall bracing, platforms, stairs, balustrades, and structural posts, beams, and lintels outside the scope of NZS3604.

This project challenged us in more ways than one. With multiple dwellings and many interconnected design components, it highlighted the importance of clear communication, close collaboration, and practical engineering solutions throughout the design and construction process. Working alongside the wider project team allowed us to deliver a coordinated outcome that we're proud to have been part of.

A big thank you to the team at Palmer and Cook Developments, and everyone involved, for the opportunity to contribute to another quality residential development in the Wellington region.

✨ Mānawatia a Matariki ✨

As we prepare to celebrate Matariki and the Māori New Year, we're reminded of the importance of reflection, gratitude, and looking ahead with optimism.

We'd like to thank our clients, project partners, and the wider construction industry for their continued trust and collaboration. Every project is a team effort, and we're grateful to play a part in helping deliver stronger, safer buildings and support to communities across New Zealand.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and well-deserved long weekend, with time to relax, reconnect with whānau and friends, and celebrate the meaning of Matariki.

From the team at Seismic Solutions Ltd, Mānawatia a Matariki.

🌟 Project Spotlight | Porirua Wastewater Treatment Plant 🌟

We're pleased to have contributed to the redevelopment of the Porirua Wastewater Treatment Plant in Titahi Bay, working alongside AQUATEC and Wellington Water to help deliver important infrastructure that supports the local community.

Our scope included:

✔️ Seismic restraint design for new internal pipework within the existing plant building.
✔️ Foundation pile design for external pipe supports (steel support posts designed by Aquatec).
- Foundation slab design for the new Odour Control Unit (OCU).

As is often the case with work on existing infrastructure, not everything went exactly to plan. During construction, some of the proposed pile locations were found to clash with existing underground services. Rather than compromising the design, we worked closely with the project team to develop practical alternative solutions.

The revised design included:

✔️ Two external pipe support footings redesigned to isolated RC pads.
✔️ One pipe support redesigned to connect back to the existing plant building via a specifically designed steel restraint structure.

It's a great example of how structural engineering is about more than calculations, it's about adapting to real-world site conditions and working collaboratively to keep projects moving.

With construction now largely complete, we're proud to have played a part in another piece of critical infrastructure for the Wellington region.

⚽️ Huge game for the All Whites this weekend ⚽️

🇳🇿 All Whites ( #85) vs 🇧🇪 Belgium ( #10)

One of the biggest ranking gaps in the group stage.

But rankings don't score you goals.

⚠️ MAGNITUDE 7.5 EARTHQUAKE STRIKES VENEZUELA ⚠️

Today Venezuela was struck by a powerful magnitude 7.5 earthquake, following closely behind a magnitude 7.2 foreshock in the same area. Early reports indicate significant structural damage, building collapses, and ongoing rescue efforts, with many communities facing an uncertain and challenging time ahead. The scale of this disaster is still unfolding, with the US Geological Survey reporting that there is a possibility fatalities could ultimately fall within the 10,000–100,000 range.

Events like this serve as a sobering reminder of the immense forces that earthquakes can unleash and the critical importance of resilient buildings, infrastructure, and preparedness in seismic regions.

While New Zealand experiences a very different seismic environment, we are reminded that earthquake resilience is not something to be taken for granted. The work of engineers, emergency responders, local authorities, and communities plays a vital role in reducing risk and protecting lives when these events occur.

🙏 Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this devastating event, as well as the emergency responders and recovery teams working tirelessly to assist those in need.
