Gangs are a huge protective factor for intergenerational gang members. They provide familiarity with values and beliefs. Then there are the socio-economical factors which include "identity, belonging, meaning and purpose, financial aid".

You've got to sell them something better than life's offering them. If they can't see that and you're trying to help these families. It's like pushing s@ uphill.

We can help change things for these families. Even if it's one whaanau at a time. Even one stone in a pond can cause a rippling effect.

You gotta give these families some hope. If they don't have hope. Hold it for them until they can hold hope for themselves.
