Business Coaching

Any business which wants to be successful, whether it’s selling cars, books or nouvelle cuisine, must realise that they are in the people business first and then only secondly in the automotive, retail or restaurant business. Clever businesses know that if they want to succeed, their most important asset, their people, must be a priority. Understanding the team and looking after

the individual team members will result in the team looking after the business, actively involving themselves in achieving the business goals. So, how do you take care of your team? Well most people will say that money buys loyalty and maybe for some that statement is true, but for most good employees they want to know that they are being nurtured, grown, developed and respected by their employer. How can coaching help? Firstly, by introducing a coach into your business you are on the right path to achieving desired results. Business coaching will cover two areas, Individual Executive/Management coaching and Team coaching. Individual Executive/Management Coaching

During these coaching sessions, we will explore the individual’s personal goals as well as their business objectives and how these work hand in hand. We will evaluate and pin-point desired key skills, which separate good leaders from great managers and leaders. We will evaluate leadership styles and how they affect your team’s morale, productivity, environment and loyalty. Team Coaching

A business may have a group of brilliant employees, however the difference between a good business and a great business is that in a great business, individuals do not work in silos. The need for team members to work well together is critical for achieving business success. Team synergy is not always a given and must be established, nurtured and maintained. Team coaching is not a one-off team-building event. Team coaching is carried out over a period of time, where your team will cut through the clutter, set focused goals and action-plans and establish good habits, structures, systems and processes, which are entrenched into your team’s everyday working lives. A team-building event can be facilitated during the team coaching period, as an added benefit. Why have team coaching? Team coaching establishes strong team foundations. Teams will delve into the concept of working smarter, not harder and structure their goals and actions around this philosophy. Team members learn to maximise their resources. They improve communication skills and learn to brainstorm. They learn to successfully deal with conflict situations and how to manage difficult conversations. They learn to be accountable and take ownership for their decisions and actions. They learn to acknowledge and reward their fellow team members and celebrate team and individual success. Personal Coaching

"You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading your last one.” ~ Unknown

Most of us dream about being happier, healthier, fitter more successful and having a better work-life balance. However, we sometimes get stuck and don’t always know how to move forward and start the process of turning our dreams into reality. So we inevitably end up staying with the status quo and telling ourselves that we are happy with it. Really? So, just dreaming and wishing about taking control of your life is good enough? Well, if you were screaming “NO!” to the above question, then you are the type of person who wants more out of life, who wants to control the inevitable changes in their life and are prepared to move out of their comfort zone of enjoying the status quo then you are on the road to successful change. You are ultimately in control of what happens to you, you don’t need to ask permission from anyone, but you might just need a helping hand. I would like to support and guide you in changing your current situation for the better.

Most businesses don’t have an ideas problem.

I’ve met so many business leaders over the years, who have incredible, amazing ideas!

What I continuously see as the key issue is, is that they have an ex*****on problem.

Depending on the study you look at, anywhere between 85% and 99% of ideas never make it into action.

Not because they’re bad ideas, but because something happens or should I say doesn’t happen between thinking up the idea and actually implementing the idea.

What gets in the way?

🤔 No clear ownership
🤔Competing priorities
🤔 No clearly defined plan to help prioritise the new idea.
🤔 Overthinking instead of starting
🤔 Waiting for “perfect timing”

Here is the uncomfortable truth.

The quality of your business is not defined by the ideas you generate, it is defined by the ones you actually implement.

Ideas, wishes, dreams are all too common.

It is the ex*****on which is rare.

That’s where your real competitive advantage sits.

Be the business to follow through on the BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS GOAL.

There are moments in leadership where you’re forced to choose between what is written in policy and what is needed in the room.

Not always an easy decision, believe me.

Here is a little story for you.

Once upon a time, many years ago, I asked a student to leave the class for being consistently disruptive.

Later I was informed it wasn’t actually university policy to take that step. I may have missed that memo. 🤭

I took the feedback on board, but I knew in my gut, in a similar situation, I would have done it again. (Sorry, not sorry)

What stayed with me was what happened next.

The following day, several students from that specific class quietly came up and thanked me.

Not because I had been strict, but because the learning environment had been protected.

The majority of them where there to learn and grow, not to be bullied and have their time wasted by one individual.

It raised a question I still hold onto to this day.

Perhaps you can help me with the answer.

Do we, as leader, sometimes spend too much time focused on compliance that we forget the responsibility to the group?

Policies matter, absolutely.

They create consistency and fairness.

However, leadership also lives in real time.

In reading the room, making judgement calls, and being willing to stand in the discomfort of those decisions.

For me, the learning was simple.

Rules guide us, but responsibility to the wider environment guides impact.

Almost forgot to mention.

That disruptive student came to apologise a few days later. Go figure.

Thoughts please.

One of the key areas I focus on when working with business leaders during strategy and business planning sessions is their organisational structure.

Firstly, do you have one? Do you need one?

If you're a solo operator, probably not.

There are other areas that will have a greater impact on your business.

However, if you have a team, having a clear organisational structure is essential.

This isn't about creating hierarchy, status, or layers of management and red tape.

This is about ensuring the business operates effectively, customers receive the best possible service, and nothing falls through the cracks.

We often talk about workflow and work sequence, but how often do we talk about people flow?

Do you have the right people, with the right skills and attitude, in the right roles, at the right time, so that the work can flow seamlessly through the business?

Here are a few questions to consider:

🤔 Does every team member have a current job description?
🤔 Does each person clearly understand what they are responsible for, what they are not responsible for, and who owns the other key tasks within the business?
🤔 Have you built a position around a person's unique skill set? If so, what happens when that person leaves?
🤔 Do you hire people into clearly defined positions, or do you customise every role around the individual?

As a general rule, businesses are more scalable and sustainable when people are hired into established positions rather than creating a bespoke role for every employee.

A well-designed organisational structure creates clarity, accountability, and consistency.

It helps your team perform at their best and ensures the business isn't dependent on any one individual.

Yesterday was Session 1 of Level 1 Extended DISC Practitioner Training, where I had the privilege of training a school principal to become a certified practitioner.

One of the reasons I am so passionate about psychometric profiling is that it helps us understand something that often gets overlooked in business, which is people.

You may think that odd, but it is so common.

We get wrapped up in figures, systems, products and deadlines, we so often forget about the human beings and how to engage with them.

We can have the best business strategy, systems, and plans in place, but ultimately, businesses succeed or struggle because of the behaviours, communication styles, and interactions of the people operating within them.

That's why my work isn't just about helping businesses build strategy and achieve goals.

It's also about helping leaders and teams understand themselves and each other better.

Tools like extended DISC provide valuable insight into how people communicate, make decisions, respond to pressure, and contribute to a team.

When leaders understand these behavioural differences, they can lead more effectively, reduce conflict, improve communication, and create stronger, more engaged teams.

Whether I'm working with a business owner, a leadership team, or a school principal, the goal is always the same, helping people unlock their potential so they can bring out the best in others.

You don’t need your practitioner licence to have yourself and/or your team profiled – just get in touch and I can facilitate the profiling process for you.

I absolutely believe that business owners and leaders underestimate the power of communication.

One of the biggest mistakes leaders can make is assuming that “no news” is neutral or good news.

It’s not. Trust me on this one.

When teams aren’t updated, informed, or included, people naturally start filling in the blanks themselves.

Human beings are naturally wired to create meaning, and when there’s silence, speculation takes over.

Unfortunately, those stories are often shaped by personal fears, uncertainty, assumptions, past experiences, or workplace gossip.

Before long, the narrative shifts, mindsets change, morale drops, and unnecessary tension starts building around something that may not even be an issue or even real!

Good leadership communication isn’t always about having all the answers.

Sometimes it’s simply saying, “We don’t have an update yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.”

That small act creates reassurance.

It creates trust.

It keeps people connected instead of disconnected.

Silence creates stories, really interesting ones.

Communication creates clarity.

Clarity is one of the greatest leadership tools you have, absolutely priceless.

People don’t expect perfection from leaders.

But they do value transparency, consistency, and feeling informed.

Never underestimate how much unnecessary stress, confusion, and workplace narrative can be avoided through simple, intentional communication.

Yesterday was session 2 of my public Understanding Emotional Intelligence workshop focused on self-management.

One of the key messages I shared with the group before we got stuck in, was this.

There is no shortage of strategies, tools, and techniques available to help us build better habits.

We can read the books, listen to the podcasts, follow the steps, tick the boxes, and mechanically go through the motions.

But, and this is a BIG but, so often those changes don't last because we're simply performing an action rather than creating a meaningful shift.

Real and lasting behaviour change starts with understanding WHY the change is important in the first place.

When we take the time to challenge our thinking and ourselves, increase our self-awareness, and develop the right mindset, our behaviours begin to change naturally.

We are no longer relying on personal grit and willpower alone, we are acting from a place of purpose and intention, which is so much easier and less stressful and takes way less effort.

Once our mindset is aligned, we are far more likely to develop the self-discipline needed to create habits that truly work for us and positively impact the people around us.

Now that is a key self-leadership skill!

What do you think?

“I appreciate you!”

I received this from a client the other day.

They sent me an update email, and the very last line simply said, "I appreciate you."

Just three words.

Short and simple.

It made my heart smile. ❤️

Being acknowledged and appreciated for a job well done is a wonderful feeling.

We all work hard, support others, solve problems, and help people move forward.

Yet so often, we forget to tell those around us that we value what they do.

A few words of genuine appreciation can have a much bigger impact than we realise.

These acknowledgements can brighten someone's day, boost their confidence, and remind them that what they do really and truly matters.

So, who can you acknowledge today?

Who has been awesome in your life, your business, your team, or your family?

Don't assume they already know.

Please, please, please, go and tell them.

07/06/2026

Standing at a café counter, waiting my turn, the server did what servers do, smiled and asked the chap in front me how he was and what they could get for them.

This gentleman didn’t default to the usual autopilot response.

There was no “I’m fine.”
No staged politeness.

He paused, looked up, and said. “I’m good. I love my life.”

Boom and just like that, the tone of the entire moment shifted.

You could physically feel the shift in the air – seriously!

It was powerful.

Because most people don’t actually answer that question honestly.

It becomes habit, not reflection. Something we just do, the ritual of a greeting.

We reply on instinct, not intention.

But that small exchange was a reminder that words shape energy, and energy shapes presence.

What would change if more of us actually meant our answer, or put more reflection or intention into the answer?

This is making a conscious choice to notice what is working, what is good, and what we are grateful for, even in the middle of the everyday rush.

That one sentence didn’t just answer a question.
It reframed a moment.
For him.
For the server.
For me, which I am so grateful for.

It made me think.

It reminded me what you lead with and your power over what you choose to give attention to.

Here is the learning - what you lead with, will frame your environment.

Small, intentional moments.
Big and lasting impact.

The image - A picture of my boi Flynn! One of the happiest chappies I know! Have an awesome sauce day!

03/06/2026

This morning was session one of my public Understanding Emotional Intelligence workshop, and we started where all great personal and professional growth begins, with self-awareness.

One of the key discussions centred around this question,
"How can we expect to understand and connect with others if we don't first understand ourselves?"

Emotional Intelligence isn't just about managing emotions. It's about recognising the impact our thoughts, behaviours, communication style, and emotional responses have on the people around us.

The reality is that every interaction leaves an impression.

Our level of self-awareness influences:

✅ How we communicate
✅ How we handle conflict
✅ How we build trust
✅ How we lead others
✅ How we respond under pressure

When we develop greater self-awareness, we become more intentional.

We stop reacting automatically, we switch off the auto-pilot and start choosing our responses more carefully.

That shift can transform relationships, teams, workplaces, and even families.

A fantastic group this morning with plenty of reflection, discussion, and a few lightbulb moments.

Looking forward to session two next week, where we will focus on Self-management.

Want to know more about the workshops? Please get in touch!
