Totarol™ is a naturally occurring plant extract against potent anti-bacterial activity in both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Totarol™ also has potent anti-oxidant properties. Totarol™ is active against acne and tooth decay bacteria, and is one of the rare phytochemicals active against penicillin and methicillin-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus. Our focus with Totarol™ now is developing finished products in animal and human health where Totarol™ has proven to be a very effective replacement to antibiotics. Totara leaf testing
We have been doing some interesting work with the totara leaf; using steam distillation, we did get a low yield oil. The tone of this oil is quite strong and would be from the three key compounds extracted.
The main compounds found in the leaf consisted of terpenes Pinene, Sabinene, and Caryophyllene; Caryophyllene found in cannabis and Pinene also having cannabis-related benefits. We also found with these compounds; you would get a good level of bioactive benefits.
No Totarol present, but that was expected but we will need to do a supercritical extracted trials next year and see what comes out of that, hopefully, Ferruginol a Totarol related compounds which should be in the leaf.
I don’t know about shewing totarol left but could have benefits in a poultice!

Any antibiotic exposed to bacteria allows them to develop a resistance to it over time, and in some cases very quickly indeed - here’s the proof!

The good news is that Totarol™ is a new type of antimicrobial – it’s natural, it’s extracted from the native Totara tree of New Zealand and is free from any residues. Scientists believe that because the extract is completely insoluble in water, this should make it less prone to bacteria being able to build up a resistance to it. Totarol™ also has a mode-of-action that is different to many classes of antibiotic currently in use.
