Kia ora

It has been a busy few months on the ground with NZFO crews around the Manawatu-Whanganui regions.

With the uncertainty of fuel pricing at the forefront of most contractors minds, our crews were lucky enough to be able to push on.
This has been possible largely due to the damage from the cyclone event in March. Owners needing forests harvested to avoid loss in revenue, much to the pleasure of many contractors in the area currently we are sure.

Winter is around the corner, here's hoping it is a safe and productive time for all.

At what point do the truck and machine keys get switched off..🫣
Diesel expected to rise another .35c on Sunday night.

The pain is at the pump for most businesses and vehicle owners right now, but the real pain is yet to hit for us all in a few months.. the flow on from this will be crippling.

Time to reduce RUC or fuel tax before its too late.

Where did summer go..

Well, it feels like we have had our shortest summer on record this year.
To rub salt into the wound, another cyclone like event similar to Gabriel hit the Southern North Island leaving behind a trail of destruction.

Luckily for one of our clients, we have a harvesting operation currently working on the farm so availability is not an issue.
6ha out of 24ha was affected on this property, not a great deal compared to other forests hit in the region but it definitely puts into perspective when you think thats 1/4.
The crew will be hooking into it next week so that should eliminate losses from age..

As always, mechanized is the best preferred option for windthrow. If there are areas to be manual cut, be sure to consider the following:
Follow the 5step fell plan
Have an observer on hand or team up with another cutter.
Rest and hydrate often, windthrow can be a mental game.
Lastly, speak up if you feel a situation is too tough to tackle.

If there are forest owners within Manawatu/Lower North requiring salvage harvesting do not hesitate to get in touch.

2026 has begun with several operations launching at various locations in Manawatu, a couple of farm woodlots and a salvage job where a block suffered considerable damage.

It is encouraging to have a couple of crews operating under the NZFO banner and to see them back at work after a slow end to 2025. Collaborating with clients, starting new forests, and witnessing professional crews do what they do best is rewarding for all involved.

There are many more projects in the pipeline that we look forward to completing for the forest owners. If you or someone you know is interested in an appraisal on harvesting, feel free to reach out.
