Waiwaste is a Food Rescue Organisation that rescues edible food products from food suppliers which is surplus or would otherwise be discarded. Waiwaste rescues food from suppliers that is good enough to eat but not good enough to sell, or surplus to need – fresh fruit and vegetables, bakery products and sandwiches, frozen or fresh meat, dairy products, fresh eggs, prepackaged foods and non-alcoholic beverages. Rescued food is given to foodbanks throughout the Wairarapa and other charitable organisations who feed people in need. Strict health and safety regulations are followed in our collection and distribution of rescued foods. We also welcome food that local people have in excess - from their gardens, fruit trees or nonperishable, unopened food from their kitchen cupboards. Waiwaste is keen to hear from food producers and businesses who have food that is no longer viable for selling, and from reliable volunteers who can help with the collection of food regularly.

⚡ A huge shout out to the team at Contact Energy! 💚

We’re incredibly grateful to have been welcomed into 'The Good Initiative', which means we are now receiving sponsored electricity support for our Waiwaste hub.

Electricity is one of our major operating costs, so this support makes a huge difference. It helps us keep our hub running, power our commercial chillers and freezers, and charge our two fully electric vans that help us rescue and redistribute kai across the Wairarapa.

A massive thank you to Contact Energy for backing our mahi and helping us continue to keep good food out of landfill and in the hands of our community. 🌱

🍎 September Impact 💚

Thanks to the incredible support of our food donors, volunteers and community partners, together we shared 16,172kg of quality surplus food across the Wairarapa during September.

That food reached more than 35 community organisations, helping provide nutritious meals and groceries to people who need them most while preventing perfectly good food from going to landfill.
