Symbolising the rebirth of winemaking in Masterton for the first time since prohibition, Matahiwi’s logo embraces the phoenix – a mythical sacred firebird, which ignites and reduces itself and its nest to ashes at the end of its 500- to 1000-year life cycle, only to emerge anew to live again. Matahiwi Estate produces its wine according to the criteria of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.

A little bit of gold for ME Pinot Noir 2024 🥇

We’re pretty excited to share that our ME by Matahiwi Estate Pinot Noir 2024 has just been awarded GOLD at the 2026 International Wine & Spirit Competition, scoring 95 points! How good!

What makes this one extra special for us is that ME sits right at the heart of our range — an approachable, drink-now Pinot Noir made to seriously overdeliver on quality and value. To see it recognised on the international stage alongside some incredible wines is a hugely proud (and genuinely uplifting!) moment for our small team.
