Good maintenance programmes are something I often see being overlooked in busy businesses. Maintenance is often happening, but there are no formal processes in place for planning, reporting, or recording.

Do you have a preventative or a reactive approach to maintenance?

Keeping people safe by paying better attention to vehicle maintenance would have saved a worker from a serious forklift injury, WorkSafe New Zealand says.

Do you have Site Specific Safety Plans in place?

Do you have Site Specific Safety Plans in place?

A Christchurch business has been forced to pay almost $300,000 in health and safety failings over the death of a subcontractor.

And thats a wrap! Building condition assessments completed on 147 school sites for the Ministry (Education). Over 1000 buildings surveyed and about 6000km travelled. What a thoroughly enjoyable project, some of the nicest scenery and I got to meet some awesome people along the way!

Really enjoyed running Asbestos Awareness training for Plumbers and Electricians this week! It's always a pleasure seeing their knowledge increase and discussing safe work methods with the boys! Plenty of upcoming courses, contact me if you want to book

I am advising my clients to review their current vaccination policy and covid risk assessments to ensure that they are still fit for purpose, in light of the Delta variant being superceded by Omicron in NZ.

The recent High Court ruling regarding vaccine mandates highlights the need for risk assessments to be fair and based on individual roles, to be reviewed regularly and to provide flexibility in exceptional circumstances. Vaccination policy's should have clear criteria and options for alternative working arrangements.

As always, I am available to help should you need me. 😄

I'd like to thank all my loyal clients for their continued support through what has been a challenging year for many.

2021 was a year in which applying common sense and sound judgement to some tricky questions, led to improved outcomes and greater certainty for business owners and staff, and I am grateful to have been able to provide guidance to so many wonderful businesses.

2021 has been an interesting year for SHQ. Our service offering has expanded to include asset management, and I have really enjoyed aerial filming property portfolios and conducting building condition surveys for clients around Northland. Due to repeated requests, we also now offer regular asbestos awareness training, in-house or at our central city location.

I am looking forward to 2022 and the adventure ahead. Cheers, and have a great christmas break!

Amanda
