After my best mate committed su***de my patterns of behaviour shifted. I started to see the world through maximising the opportunities we have to experience life as much as possible because we will all be gone very soon.
My business is merely an expression of my intention to facilitate fulfilment, to help others help themselves via what they can control despite the endless list of things we can’t control. This starts with self, whether you’re a business owner, leader, employee, mother , father, high performing sports athlete, it all starts with self. This is me in my garage after an hour workout, a 30 minute sauna and midway through a recorded hypnotherapy recording. I’m In the ice for five minutes. Learning to control what I can control, in this case mostly my breath.
No one owes you wellbeing, no one owes you peak performance, you can’t control what is outside of you, only what is in. You deserve well-being and you have a birth right to perform at your highest potential and to experience fulfilment. What are you doing to build that for yourself ?

As an employer you have the things you are Obliged to do and the things that are Optional. Need to have’s and nice to have’s. I personally believe we are far too focused on the obligations, we operate so much from the fear of doing something wrong as an employer it finds us fixated on the formality in the relationship which in turn robs us of the real. And people are desperate for real.

What’s interesting is I often find higher levels of engagement and performance stems from a genuine authentic experience via what companies don’t have to do but choose to do to be great employers.

I tend to see a real Opportunity to combine both our obligations and our optional activity.

Here’s some starter example tips on that:

👉You SHOULD have an employment agreement and employee policies - you COULD present fundamental expectations in a way that engages a real human being. The OPPORTUNITY is in how you combine the two.

👉You SHOULD ensure job roles and responsibilities are clear, you COULD check in and reiterate direction over time. The OPPORTUNITY is in how you combine the two.

👉You SHOULD let people know when they aren’t performing and give them a chance to improve before you engage in a performance management process, you COULD check in regularly on performance, growth and development. The OPPORTUNITY is in how you combine the two.

👉You SHOULD make sure the workplace is as free as possible from potential physical and mental harm, you COULD provide wellbeing initiatives to support and advance their physical and mental wellbeing, the OPPORTUNITY is in how you combine the two.

👉You SHOULD be professional in how you relate to your team members, you COULD create a culture where people feel connection to, the OPPORTUNITY is how you combine the two

💡 Your HR strategy doesn’t need to be one part formal obligation and one part informal interaction. Both can be accomplished in one ritual or routine.

And culture is rituals and routines on repeat

The best Leaders aren’t born, they’re not the best at the thing, they don’t have the highest IQ, they don’t dress best, they don’t need the senior title or a specific talent, in fact (gallups research suggests) there is no correlation between a leaders Strengths and their ability to lead. The most significant difference in a leaders effectiveness is their EQ!! The best leaders know them selves deeply, they know what they need in order to thrive, they adjust the volumes of their strengths depending on the situation. The best leader knows how to lead themself.
