FAQ No.3: Can I actually meet you face to face?

The honest answer? Probably not in person, and that’s by design.

Most of our meetings happen over video. It means we can share screens, walk through your numbers together and get straight into the work, without anyone losing half a day to drive time. We think that’s faster and far more useful for you.

That said, we’re human and love meeting you all. If you’re ever passing through where your advisor is based, or through Mount Maunganui, we’d love to grab a coffee and do it properly in person.

Online doesn’t mean distant. It just means efficient.

Missed FAQ No.2 on where we’re actually based? It’s back on the grid. Next week: FAQ No. 4.

Over to you. Video call or in person, which do you prefer for talking through your numbers? Tell us in the comments.

Save this if drive time to your accountant has ever felt like wasted time. And send it to a business owner who’s tired of meetings that could have been a video call.

Ask a room of business owners what their accountant does for them and most will say the same thing. Sorts my tax, sends me a bill once a year, then goes quiet.

That's not accounting doing its job. That's accounting doing the bare minimum!

Here's the shift, from the way it usually feels to the way it should (in our eyes):

From not knowing what to measure, to a few KPIs that actually tell you how the business is tracking.

From only hearing from your accountant when the invoice lands, to regular conversations and no nasty surprises.

From big decisions made on gut feel, to decisions backed by real numbers.

From having no idea what you're paying for, to a live dashboard that keeps you accountable.

That's the difference between compliance and proactive accounting. One keeps you legal. The other does that + helps you build a stronger, more profitable business.

Save this for the next time you're weighing up whether your current setup is actually working for you. And send it to a business owner stuck in the once-a-year bill surprise cycle.

We're Bring On Monday, an accounting and business advisory team for NZ small business owners who want more than a filing service.

FAQ No. 2: Where are you actually based?

The easy answer? We’re a New Zealand company with our head office in Mount Maunganui.

The real answer is what makes us different. We’re 100% online. So we hire the best person for the job, not just whoever happens to live in Mount Maunganui.

That means you get the right advisor for your business. Experience and fit, not postcode.

And online doesn’t mean no face to face. We meet with you over video, so you still get the real conversation. Just without the drive time.

And if you do happen to be driving through where your advisor is based, or via Mount Maunganui, we’d of course love to do our meeting with you in person over a coffee.

Missed FAQ No. 1 on proactive vs reactive accounting? It’s back on the grid. Next week: FAQ No. 3!

Over to you. Save this if you’ve ever settled for “close by” over “best fit.” And send it to a business owner weighing up a new accountant.

FAQ #1: How are you actually different from other accountants?

We get asked this on nearly every discovery call. So we’re answering the honest ones, one at a time, over the next few weeks. This is number one of four.

The short version? We’re proactive, not reactive.

Most accountants report your numbers, then hand you a tax bill at the end of the year. Job done until next year.

We do more than that. We work with you to drive the numbers first. Then we manage the tax around them, before it turns into a surprise.

One approach tells you what already happened. The other tells you what’s coming and what to do about it.

Next week: FAQ #2.

Over to you. What would make you switch accountants? Tell us in the comments.

Save this if you’ve ever wondered whether your accountant should be doing more. And send it to a business owner who only hears from theirs at tax time.

Provisional tax confuses more NZ small business owners than any other tax. Not because it's complicated, but because nobody explains it properly.

It is not extra tax. It's your income tax, paid in advance, in instalments. If your residual income tax was over $5,000 last year, you’ll likely become a provisional tax payer.

For most businesses on a 31 March balance date, the first instalment for the 2027 tax year is due 28 August 2026. Miss it or underpay it and IRD usually charges you interest and late penalties!

The fix works. Set aside a percentage of every sale, know your number before the 28th, and then get a second opinion.

Save this so it's there when the 28th sneaks up on you. And send it to a business owner who thinks provisional tax sucks (but you know this will help them!)

"How do I get more clients?" is the question almost every business owner asks.

But here is the uncomfortable truth: more clients will not fix your business if they are the wrong clients. Not all revenue is good revenue.

The owners who grow profit (not just turnover) do the opposite of what feels natural. They get ruthlessly clear on who they serve best, then say no to the rest.

Swipe through for the shift that changes everything, then book a free chat if you want help working out who your best clients really are.

Meet Amy 👋

We're thrilled to welcome Amy Dove to the Bring On Monday team as our newest Business Advisor.

Amy's path into accounting isn't the usual one. She spent years as a management accountant helping major international retailers like The Body Shop and Amazon grow their revenue by millions, then moved to New Zealand and spent nine years running her own business. So she knows business from both sides: the commercial instincts, the experience of running her own show, and the numbers expertise to match. She's not just crunching numbers. She actually gets it.

In her words: "This isn't a team that just tells you what already happened with your numbers. It's a group of fellow business owners who help you figure out what's next, with strategic advice and zero accounting jargon."

Swipe through to get to know Amy a little better, carrot cake spreadsheet and all 😆

If she pops up in your inbox or on a call, say hi. You're in good hands.

"Sales are fine. It's the margin I'm worried about."

It's the sentence we heard on repeat this month, from manufacturers to e-commerce brands to beauty clinics. And it makes sense. For a lot of NZ businesses the top line is holding up, but underneath it costs are creeping quietly. Freight, advertising, wages. A dollar of margin here, a dollar there. On its own it looks like rounding. Compounded across a year, it's the difference between a good result and a nerve wracking one.

The businesses moving ahead this quarter aren't the ones selling more. They're the ones protecting their gross profit instead of letting it slip away.

The move is simple: pick an achievable gross margin target, put it in your budget, and treat any slippage as a signal, not noise. But you can't protect a margin you can't see clearly, so clean books come first.

Swipe through the carousel for how it plays out in practice.

👉 Not sure where your gross margin actually sits right now? Get in touch for a chat.

Most business owners treat bookkeeping as a box to tick. Get it done, file it, move on. But books that are just "up to date" don't actually help you run anything.

Here are 5 things owners get wrong, and why it costs them. Because good bookkeeping should tell you something. So the real question is: what does yours tell you?

If the answer is "not much," that's exactly what we fix. From $349/month, for NZ business owners turning over $250k to $10M.
