Te Herenga Internship Opportunity 2026

E ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā karangatanga maha, tēnā koutou katoa.

Over the years Te Herenga network members have provided important contributions and connections to the EPA. The development of He Whetū Mārama, and the Mātauranga Framework are examples of EPA work where advice and guidance from our Te Herenga network has been invaluable.

An internship programme with Te Herenga network is a good opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the EPA and Te Herenga. It comes from a suggestion at past national hui as one way to provide iwi and hapū with an opportunity to learn more about the EPA, as well as strengthen connections between EPA, Te Herenga, iwi, and hapū.

While the internship will have a focus on EPA work such as our different regulatory functions, implementing the Mātauranga Framework, and Wai Tuwhera o te Taiao, there will also be opportunities for collaboration with other agencies. The successful candidate can build new skills and extend existing skills in this space. It also provides an opportunity to build new relationships or expand existing networks.

Last year we were lucky enough to have two rangatahi, Hugo and Kelly, join us as interns. They added a fresh perspective and added valuable contributions to our mahi and if you attended our national hui last year at Waahi Paa, you may have meet them as well. We are keen to bring on board a new intern and welcome hearing from anyone associated with Te Herenga who may interested in learning more about our mahi.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send an email to [email protected] introducing yourself along with a CV and a cover letter OR paragraph about your experience, your values, your whakapapa and/or if you have any questions for us.

Closing date: 5:00pm, 17 April 2026.

Please note, this is a full-time paid internship for a duration of three months based in our office in central Wellington, with the wage rate to be agreed on. We can talk more about this as part of the application process.

More information about our mahi can be found here on our website: Te Hautū | EPA
