Another successful First Aid Refresher completed!

A great morning with the boys from Mid Pine Contracting LTD and CRB Logging this weekend, refreshing those all-important first aid skills with our expert trainer, Sandra Bee.

The boys had a great refresher and came away with valuable, practical information to help keep themselves and their crews safe, prepared and responsive should an incident occur onsite โ€” skills that are just as valuable in everyday life outside of work.

In forestry, we work in environments where being able to respond confidently when something goes wrong really matters. Keeping first aid knowledge current is another important part of looking after ourselves and the people working alongside us.

A big thank you to Sandra for another engaging and practical session, and to Mid-Pine Contracting and CRB Logging for continuing to invest in the safety and capability of their people. ๐Ÿ‘

Good mahi, team!

GPFS Operations - Protecting our whenua | Nassella Tussock Control

Plant pest control plays an important role in protecting the biodiversity and productive landscapes of Hawkeโ€™s Bay.

This month, our GPFS Operational Team is back into our annual Nassella tussock mahi, supporting the HBRC Biosecurity team with the ongoing control of this invasive pest plant.

๐ŸŒฑ Why does Nassella matter?

Nassella tussock is an invasive perennial grass that can spread rapidly, compete with desirable vegetation and impact productive land and natural environments. A single mature plant can produce tens of thousands of seeds, and those seeds can remain dormant in the soil for many years.

Thatโ€™s why this mahi isn't simply about removing what we can see today.

Itโ€™s about identification, control, preventing seed spread, revisiting historical sites and returning year after year to protect the whenua for the future.

And this work can't happen without collaboration.

A huge ngฤ mihi to the landowners of TukiTuki and Tangoio, Pan Pac Forest Products and Tangoio Settlement Trust for supporting access and enabling our crews to undertake this important mahi.

Pest plants don't recognise property boundaries โ€” protecting our whenua and biodiversity takes all of us. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒ

Control today. Protect tomorrow.

GOOD CREWS ARE BUILT BY GOOD PEOPLE

Every crew has that person.

๐Ÿ‘ The one who lends a hand without being asked.
๐Ÿ‘ The one who keeps morale up when the day's dragging.
๐Ÿ‘ The one who shares what they know.
๐Ÿ‘ The one who notices when someone's struggling.
๐Ÿ‘ The one you can rely on when the pressure's on.

You do not need to be the boss to make a difference to your team.

๐Ÿ‘Š Tag a workmate who makes your crew better โ€” and tell us what they bring to the team.

โ€œIt costs nothing to acknowledge good people โ€” but it can mean everything to the person hearing it.โ€

You can't pour from an empty cup ๐Ÿซ—

The last cold snap, a burst of wet weather and allergy season are all taking their toll. Add in the big silviculture season winding down, the continued pressure of harvesting and cartage, and itโ€™s easy for the body and mind to start feeling it.

This is the time to slow down where you can.

๐Ÿ˜ด Get quality sleep
๐Ÿ’ง Stay hydrated and fuel your body
๐Ÿง˜ Take time to rest and reset
๐Ÿ’ฌ Be mindful of your self-talk โ€” remind yourself that youโ€™re doing your best
๐Ÿค Check in on your crew and ask, โ€œYou all good?โ€

You can't pour from an empty cup.

Looking after yourself isn't a weakness โ€” itโ€™s what helps you keep showing up, working safely and supporting the people around you.

Look after you. Look after your crew. We all need to get through the season together. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ‘Š

Have you checked on your crew today? ๐Ÿค”

Every day, we trust the people beside us to have our backs.

But looking out for your crew goes beyond the work.

Take a moment to check in with your brother or sister on the job. Ask how they're doing. Listen to the answer. Sometimes a simple "You all good?" can mean more than you realise.

Not everyone carries their struggles where you can see them.

Strong crews don't just work togetherโ€”they look after each other.

Let's build a forestry industry where everyone gets home safely, and everyone knows they've got someone in their corner. ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿค” Did you know?

Native planting isn't just about putting trees in the ground.
It helps:

๐ŸŒฑ Reduce erosion
๐Ÿ’ง Protect waterways
๐Ÿฆ Create habitat for native wildlife
๐ŸŒฟ Improve biodiversity
๐ŸŒ Build healthier, more resilient landscapes

Every plant has a purpose. Whether it's stabilising erosion-prone slopes, improving biodiversity, protecting waterways, or restoring native ecosystems, the goal is the sameโ€”creating healthy, resilient landscapes that will thrive for generations to come.

Successful native planting starts long before the first tree is planted. Careful planning, correct site preparation, selecting the right species, and quality planting techniques all play an important role in achieving long-term success.

Right Tree. Right Place. Right Purpose. ๐Ÿค™
