Two roofs. 28 panels. One well-powered home.

Recently completed just north of Bay View, we installed 28 x 475W panels across two roof sections, 20 on the main roof and 8 on the garage. Inside, a 9kWh Sigenergy battery and 10kW three phase inverter tie the whole system together, with 13.3kW of solar connected and ready to go.

That means solar generation by day, excess solar stored in the battery to use overnight, and battery backup to keep the home running seamlessly during a power cut. This system is designed to almost eliminate this customer's annual power bill.

Every trade needed for the install is on the Freenergy team, so the customer only ever deals with one crew.

🚧 Trenching cabling under the road so a hillside solar array can send power back to the plant room. Not every solar job needs it, but this one does.
Day one of a new install in Hawke’s Bay. Pouring the concrete pad for the battery enclosure, main switchboard going in the pump room right beside, and a ground mount going up on the hill across the road. The Freenergy team handling the design, the concrete, the framing, the trenching, the panels, all of it.

We're Solassure Certified

Solassure is New Zealand's first independent quality assurance programme for solar and battery installations, developed by SEANZ. It gives property owners a trusted mark to look for when choosing a solar company, backed by independent auditing that continues long after the sale.

Solar is a long-term investment. Solassure Certified means we've been independently checked on the things that matter for the long haul, technical work, business practices, and ongoing customer support.

The bit of install day you never see on social media.

Once the panels are installed and the certified electrical work is complete, the system is thoroughly checked, tested and certified before it goes live.

This includes a roof inspection, switchboard testing, safety labelling, and completion of all required compliance documentation. A Certificate of Compliance (COC) is issued by our own installation team electrician, followed by an inspection (ROI) from an independent electrical inspector, confirming the system has been installed in accordance with New Zealand electrical standards.

It may be the least photogenic part of the installation, but it is one of the most important. Every system we install is properly tested, inspected and signed off, so you can be assured your system has been installed to a high standard of quality and safety.

We're looking for a qualified electrician to join our installation team.

Based in Hawke's Bay, you'll work on everything from residential installs to commercial, rural, and off-grid projects right across the region. No solar experience needed. Freenergy will provide full specialist training in solar, battery, and energy management systems, plus a company vehicle, phone plan, and ongoing training.

You'll need a current EWRB registration and practicing licence, a full clean NZ driver licence, and the right to work in New Zealand.

Competitive pay rate depending on skills and experience, Monday to Friday 7.00am to 4.30pm.

We're growing our installation team and looking for a Solar Install Assistant to join us in Hawke's Bay.

No solar experience needed. You'll learn on the job alongside our experienced install team, with a pathway into an electrical or solar installation apprenticeship for the right person.

You'll work on residential, rural, commercial, and off-grid projects right across the region. The work is hands-on, outdoors, and no two days look the same.

What you'll need:
✔ Fit, healthy, and comfortable working at heights
✔ Full driver licence
✔ Right to work in New Zealand
✔ A positive attitude and keen to learn

Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 4.30pm, with occasional weekend or overnight travel.
