Falcon Forestry Equipment

Falcon Forestry Equipment DC Equipment are the proud manufacturers of Falcon Forestry Equipment. Our mission is to make Steep Slope Logging worldwide safer and more productive.

Based in the New Zealand town of Brightwater at the top of the South Island, we produce the Falcon Forestry Equipment (FFE) range as well as providing maintenance and repairs services to logging crews and FFE equipment owners. Each product is based around the fundamental principal of developing uncomplicated, easy to use equipment that reduces health and safety risks to workers whilst increasing t

he productivity of the entire crew. This is achieved through developing specific equipment to remove workers from the riskiest parts of the logging process. The mechanised equipment then provides the crew with the ability to fell and extract logs more efficiently and in greater volume.

🚨 GET TO KNOW THE DC TEAM 🚨

Next up in our Meet the DC Team series is someone who helps keep the ideas flowing, the machines evolving… and the coffee consumption at slightly concerning levels ☕

Darin Borcovsky — Head Mechanical Engineer

As Head Mechanical Engineer, Darin is heavily involved in all aspects of machine design and troubleshooting across DC Equipment. From solving problems to innovating on some seriously cool equipment, no two days are ever quite the same, which is exactly what keeps him coming back. The variety of work, the ability to innovate and being part of building smarter machinery is what he enjoys most about DC.

Before becoming an engineer, Darin worked as a mechanic which apparently still creates some ironic banter between workmate Dexter when he catches him picking up tools. He’s also been heavily involved in projects like the HY3D, a ground-up iteration of the hydraulic yarder and one of his favourite machines to work on.

Outside of work? You’ll likely find him mountain biking, tackling back-country trails, or ideally enjoying a couple of crafties in the sun after a solid ride. But let’s be honest… if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that coffee may actually be Darin’s true personality trait!!!

⚡ Quick Fire Questions ⚡

📱Most used phrase at work?
You probably can’t publish that....but the second is “You have reached perfection when you have removed everything you can, not added everything you can.”
Closely followed by: “Keep it simple stupid.”

☕ Coffee order or smoko snack?
Coffee, coffee and more coffee… and none of that instant crap!

🚲 Favourite thing to do outside of work?
Mountain biking.

👀 If you could swap jobs with anyone at DC for a day?
The tea lady, that way I could drink coffee all day without people questioning it.

🎵 Best workshop/truck playlist?
Some loud Tahuna Breaks — random I know but so good!

🔧 Something people might not know about you?
I worked as a mechanic before becoming an engineer.

😅 Biggest irrational fear?
No coffee beans!!

🏔️ Ideal weekend?
A weekend of bike shuttles or a back-country epic, followed by a couple of crafties in the sun.

🎯 Hidden talent?
Being able to drink way too much coffee without side effects.

🍴 Favourite food?
Coffee (apparently this counts).

😤 Guaranteed way to make him grumpy?
No coffee beans!!

💭 Best piece of advice?
“You are better off looking at it than for it.”
(Which apparently also applies to coffee beans.)

🚨 GET TO KNOW THE DC TEAM SERIES 🚨

Well… I figured if I’m going to rope everyone else into this series, I should probably be brave enough to kick it off myself 😅

Kylie Davies — Sales & Project Coordinator

I started my time at DC Equipment around 2.5 years ago in the Innovation & Design department before making my way into the Sales team.

What does that involve?
Mainly coordinating project timelines and schedules across departments, chasing updates, solving problems and occasionally getting grumpy at boys when things aren’t happening fast enough 😂

Outside of work, I’m a huge lover of the outdoors, beaches, road trips and exploring our awesome region. I also love travel whenever I can, if there’s an opportunity to pack a bag and disappear somewhere new, I’m probably already halfway there ✈️

One of the biggest reasons I love working at DC Equipment is the real purpose behind what we do. Having family and friends in the forestry industry, I understand the risks that come with the job and the importance of getting people home safely at the end of every day. The passion Dale and Christine have for the industry and their drive to create safer, smarter ways of working is something that genuinely resonates with me.

Somewhere amongst the chaos, project timelines and chasing people for updates… I’m also currently studying towards a Project Management Certificate whenever I can find the time 😅

⚡ Quick Fire Questions ⚡

☕ Coffee order?
Strong enough to survive project timelines. There are never enough coffees in a day!

🧀 Favourite food?
Cheese. All of the cheese.

🎵 Music choice?
Country and rock music always 🎸

🕷️ Biggest irrational fear?
Spiders… and the things that touch you in the ocean 😳

🏖️ Ideal weekend?
Beach, adventures, good coffee and pretending Monday isn’t coming.

📱 Most used phrase at work?
“Good thanks” & “Tom, who’s providing the snacks today?” 😂

Now… who’s brave enough to go next? 👀

Sunrise shifts just hit different!

Stewart Logging putting the Madill 172 and Falcon Claw to work as the sky lights up over the hill. There’s something pretty special about watching precision, power, and technology all come together before most people have even had their first coffee!

From the cab view to the claw in action, this is what modern harvesting looks like, smooth, efficient, and seriously impressive.

Big thanks to the crew at Stewart Logging for sharing these epic shots out in the wild!

Big terrain. Big timber. Big performance.
This is what purpose-built productivity looks like.

Our Story… Why We Do What We Do

It started with one machine, but more than that, it started with a moment. A realisation that the way things were being done… could be safer. Should be safer!

This is the story behind DC Equipment.
The people, the journey, and the reason we show up every day.

Because this has never just been about machinery.
It’s about the crews out there doing tough, demanding work, and making sure they get home to their families at the end of it.

Built by loggers, for loggers with one purpose that drives everything we do:
Get every crew member home safe, every single day.

Take a few minutes to watch our story and learn about what drives us to do what we do....

Dale Ewers along with his wife Christine are founders and co-owners of DC Equipment who are determined to make the forestry a safer, more productive industry...
