🌟 Reflecting on 2025, I’m astounded at what we've achieved at Stratmore Stratmore Construction Solutions: Nelson branch

This was my first year in the hot seat as GM. When I took the reins I had high hopes for the year head, yet I was cautious; as I knew our industry sector wasn't in the best shape and we would inevitably hit obstacles and challenges and we'd have to dig deep. Little did I know just what lay ahead.

We kicked off focusing on building internal foundations and strong, resilient systems, processes and most importantly, a united team. We immersed ourselves in four events including the Hutt Manufacturing Expo in May, hosting our own industry event in September; welcoming our international guest speaker Juan Pablo Covarrubias and sparking conversations that will shape the future of our sector. Then the inspirational Concrete NZ Conference in October and finishing with with an unforgettable bang, being inducted into the Business Hall of Fame at the 2degrees Regional Business Awards in November 🏆

I was honoured to be elected as Board Member to the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce which has been a highlight for me personally. I joined together with the most incredible Catherine Lye at Advancing Manufacturing Aotearoa, becoming a regional lead for AMA. We commenced a wonderful new partnership with Synthesis Marketing and can't wait to show off our refined new brand offering going into 2026. And finally, a sincere and special thanks to Mark Skelly. You my friend, are simply beyond 🥰

On top of all this incredible stuff, our entire team also completed the The Lean Hub Certificate in Operational Excellence - a powerful achievement and one which has supported us to sharpen our processes, unlock new potential and create an environment where we can thrive and drive the business to continued future success. Trevor Hall, Theresa Grainger, Colin Fergus and Steffan Kelly... you guys are simply oustanding 💯 🤩

We forged new business partnerships, domestically and internationally, we celebrated milestone work anniversaries, we took our team to beautiful Nelson for a day of fun and frivolity, our sales guys refined strategies and agreed on new paths and focus areas... and we are finishing the year with a record number of pre-Christmas order fulfillments. What a bloody blast it's been!

What truly stands out for me has been watching our team flourish, together as ONE. It warms my heart beyond any event or award, and my cup overflows with pride and gratitude, for a year that has been nothing short of remarkable!

We finished our year throwing axes (not at each other 🤣) which was just what the doctor ordered🪓😄

The future looks bright as we head into 2026 and the opportunities feel limitless✨ It's safe to say, if my team will have me, I'll be back to embrace another year at Stratmore😁

From all of us at Stratmore, thank you for being a part of our journey. We wish you a wonderful, safe, and very Meri Kirimihete 🎄

Who said a concrete conference couldn’t be fun? 🏗️🎉 😁

My first time attending the Concrete NZ Conference was an absolute blast. The perfect mix of learning, inspiration and meeting some seriously clever (and genuinely good) people from across our industry 👍

The theme this year? Decarbonisation. Concrete might be the world’s most used material after water, but it’s also central to building a lower-carbon future here in Aotearoa.

Highlights for me included Clare Tubolets (SmartCrete CRC), driving innovation across Australia and Dr Andrew Minson (GCCA), sharing a global perspective on how our industry is tackling decarbonisation head-on.

I'm also inspired by Concrete NZ’s Roadmap to 2050 - aiming for a net-zero carbon concrete industry, including a 44% emissions cut by 2030. Ambitious? Absolutely. Achievable? With the people in our industry, I’d say yes! ✅

Beyond the sessions and insights, what really stood out was the real sense of community. Passionate, curious, forward-thinking people who also know how to have a laugh along the way. We all left feeling energised, proud and reminded that our industry isn’t just solid… it’s seriously inspiring. 💪🧱

Craig Meiklejohn and Rob Willems ... I'm excited to do it all again with you both next year in our own back yard 👊

Recently we had the pleasure of hosting the 'Future of Roading and Pavement Solutions in New Zealand' industry event, right here in Lower Hutt.

Our wonderful guest speaker, Juan Pablo Covarrubias was here all the way from Chile, to talk about his role at TCPavements and their work in successfully building concrete roads and pavements all over the world; using the OptiPave System with FORTA, LLC. synthetic fibres.

For many of us in the room, with little to no knowledge of roading construction, Juan was very relatable and made the presentation surprisingly easy to understand - we were all fascinated by the many benefits of concrete roading and paving. New innovations, world-class software and incredibly talented people looking outside the box to show us concrete is a truly viable option for roading.

Roading designed and constructed with the TCPavements OptiPave System technology are thinner compared to traditional designs, for similar loads and traffic. This means more bang for your buck, lower initial costs and a raft of other long term benefits over traditional asphalt including:

💰 A vastly lower Life-Cycle Cost
✅ Much longer lasting than asphalt
⚡ Lower heat island effect, which reduces energy consumption
🚗 Reduces cost and congestion caused by maintenance
🔦 Less energy consumption for illumination (30%)

Governments across the world are embracing building roads in concrete and at Stratmore Construction Solutions Limited we believe now is the time for Aotearoa New Zealand to jump on board and look at how we can do our roading better. On the back of our event, we already have some very exciting conversations with industry leaders in play - watch this space 👁️‍🗨️

We're incredibly excited to bring this new technology to Aotearoa and lead the charge to create better roads for all kiwis. Just imagine - no more potholes!!! 🎶 👂

Thank you as always Patrick McKibbin, Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Concrete NZ - your support and contribution is always very much appreciated. And the Lower Hutt Events Centre, for providing a perfect venue, truly delightful food and top notch customer service.

If you're curious to know more about concrete roading and the OptiPave System; and to be kept in the loop with upcoming events; get in touch with us Stratmore

💥 Shoutout to Donna - all round awesome wahine and forklift Queen 🫅

Taking time to get to know each of my unique and wonderful team members at Stratmore - my ‘work family’ - is an absolute privilege.

Meet Donna, our fabulous Senior Production wahine, who’s been in our Stratmore family for over 13 years now! Yep, another long standing Stratmore team member who clearly enjoys her work - she keeps showing up, year after year! 🤗 👊

Although I’ve been ‘around’ Stratmore on and off for many of Donna’s years, it has been more recently I’ve had the opportunity to get to know who Donna really is. I’ve uncovered a fiercely strong wahine, who values responsibility, autonomy and hard work. Donna is a natural leader and has an innate ability to ‘see things’ others sometimes miss; which is invaluable in the workplace 💡

Donna brings a serious array skills to the floor – she’s our forklift queen; a title she holds proudly 🏆, she has vast, in-depth and intricate materials and product knowledge and knows our production business like the back of her hand 🤚

She’s a proud mum who works her socks off to support her family. She's got a wonderful sense of humour and we have the best laughs 🤣 Donna knows her mind and calls a spade a spade. And I like that about Donna. She’s not afraid to tell it like it is and that makes our relationship all that much easier to navigate.

Donna’s dedication, attitude and all-round awesomeness make her an integral part of what makes Stratmore tick.

I'm proud to work alongside Donna and I know there is still a lot I will learn from her as we navigate the years ahead together.

Here’s to you Donna and many more years with our Stratmore whanau 🤗

How many times have you had a virtual 'relationship'. Someone on the end of an email whom you have figured you 'knew' and had a picture of who they'd be in person... then you finally get to meet them and all is not as it may have seemed! It was oh so much better 😍

Last week we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Chin from FORTA Concrete to New Zealand and to Stratmore.

Chin's based in Malaysia and as a one man band, he’s responsible for managing all customer and partner relationships for the Asia-Pac region for Forta; which he does with aplomb 👊

Having corresponded over several months, we agreed, it was time to meet in person, so Chin made plans a visit to little 'ol Aotearoa for a few days. As New Zealand's exclusive distributor of Forta Products, we were all very excited to meet Chin and explore the wonderful opportunities for further growth of our already 25 year partnership with Forta.

We knew immediately that Chin was 'one of us' and we welcomed him into the Stratmore fold with open arms. From virtual stranger to 'family' in a matter of days - the power of human connection, of in person meeting, sharing stories and experiences, talking about family and travel, laughing A LOT, knowledge being transferred and excitement building.

Not only did we lay a strategy to take our already successful partnership into the stratosphere, we made a friend and we grew international relations, opening up a whole new world of possibilities for both of us.

Chin stayed on in Aotearoa for another 5 days, heading down to our stunning South Island 🥶 and cramming in as much sight seeing as he possibly could before heading home to a Malaysian heat wave 🥵 (These pics are Chin’s converted Fire Station hotel in Hoki, a pic of one of many stunning views and the outlook down the driveway from his accommodation on the West Coast). This was Chin’s first visit to New Zealand and to say he was ‘taken’ by Aotearoa’s beauty is an understatement. (Given staying in The Hutt was his first taste of New Zealand, he even rated it... well, he loved Janus Bakery - team Janus, nailed it as always!

We couldn’t be more proud of what we achieved in just a few days. A new found energy for our partnership, a new family member for Stratmore, a new outlook on relationships and for me personally, a confirmation that it's in person, every time, all the way! ✔️

It was heartwarming to meet Chin in person and put a 'face to the name'... and so much more. A new and unexpected friendship and we cemented our partnership (pun intended) for many, many years to come 🥰

Watch this space... we'll be sharing exciting new industry products and opportunities in the months to come... proudly brought to New Zealand by Stratmore and Forta.
