🛑 Say "No receipt!" next time you checkout. Here is why you should skip the paper slip:
WHY:
⚠️ They are toxic: Most receipts are printed on thermal paper coated with BPA or BPS. These toxic chemicals absorb into your skin within seconds of touching them and disrupt your hormones.
♻️ They can’t be recycled: Because of that chemical coating, you cannot recycle them. Tossing them in the recycling bin actually contaminates entire batches of clean paper. They belong in the trash, and they are smaller than an envelope!
🌿 They waste resources: Every year, receipt production wipes out millions of trees and wastes billions of gallons of water.
Protect your health and the planet—opt for digital receipts or skip them entirely! 🌍📱

Nope. No sirree! Not my job.
Whoever dropped their closed and unwashed cartons at the Sports Therapy bin today is very welcome to come back and collect them (to process at home) with no judgement from me. 😘
They are already quite aromatic so if they have not been collected by 5pm on Friday, they will be going in the bin.

It makes my heart sing to have new volunteers come on board the growing Grassroots team! Thank you to everyone who has been in touch recently and offered to help out. As I keep saying, 'Many Hands Make Light Work' ...
So whether you are collecting from a community bin, picking up cartons from a cafe, sorting or delivering lids ... it all goes into the big Grassroots pot and helps with the diversion of waste from landfill. Together we have diverted well over 15 tonnes so far!

• Yesterday we had the joy of working with 17 beautiful legends who came together to collect litter from the Victory area.
• We were joined by lots of familiar faces, and some lovely new ones, of all ages! And we all agreed it was a very successful mission …
• Aside from connecting in the community, we also picked up 28.5kg of rubbish from the Railway Reserve, Jenner Road, Murphy Street and around Victory Square.
• Refreshing rewards were provided by the lovely folk at Chia Sisters
• Huge thanks for the support and hard work by all the crew at the Nelson Tasman Climate Forum

We are still collecting these Aunt Betty plastic pottle for re-purposing by the Nelson Soroptimists, so please send them our way if you indulge in these wee pudding treats. You can bag them up and drop them to any of our 15 Grassroots Recycling collection bins between Atawhai to Richmond (there is a list of all our bins pinned to the top of our FB page). Thanks heaps 🤩

But please keep them coming, if you have any more - just bag them up and drop to your nearest Grassroots Recycling bin, along with your cartons and/or lids.

We all know that "many hands make light work" and we are hoping to find new volunteers to help with 2 specific areas of our initiative that need more support at the moment. Could you be a new Grassroots Legend? Please get in touch if you have an hour or two to spare per week.

♻ We have great news that there is a new sub-hub collecting in Richmond.
♻ The lovely team at MacMillans Pottery have set up their own Grassroots collection station between the cafe and the gallery at Alchemy Arts Centre on Bateup Road, Richmond.
♻ This collection point is available for you to drop off your LIDS (be ready to separate them into all the different categories please), and also your food & beverage CARTONS - once you have got them opened up nice and flat and washed them nice and clean please!
♻ This recycling station is available Monday to Saturday 10am - 3pm (but CLOSED on public holidays).
