When Xero goes down, every bookkeeper suddenly remembers what “manual processes” used to mean 😅

Current office activities include:
• Refreshing the browser every 30 seconds
• Wondering if it’s our internet
• Pretending to stay calm
• Telling clients “Xero is currently experiencing issues” for the 47th time today

On the bright side… at least we can finally catch up on coffee and emotional recovery ☕😂

What happens if you don’t pay PAYE to IRD in New Zealand?

PAYE (Pay As You Earn) is the tax deducted from employees’ wages and paid to the IRD.

Because this tax is taken from employees on behalf of the government, it is not considered the employer’s money. For this reason, IRD treats unpaid PAYE very seriously.

If a business does not pay PAYE on time, penalties, interest, and debt recovery action may follow.

🎉 Happy New Year 2026 🎉

Here’s to a year that’s purposeful, profitable, and far less stressful than the last.

Before the year gets busy, these four simple actions will set you up well:

Reconcile December now
If December isn’t done, January starts behind.

Create one simple filing habit
One folder. One system. One place.
Loose receipts usually mean missing money.

Check your real cash position
What’s actually available after GST, PAYE, and upcoming bills?
Hope is not a cashflow strategy.

Stop guessing
Not understanding your numbers isn’t the problem.
Ignoring them is.

2026 doesn’t need to be perfect.
It just needs to be clear, tidy, and intentional.

If bookkeeping caused stress last year, let’s not carry that forward.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year!🎉

🎄Enjoy the Festivities, Not the Stress!🎄

As the year draws to a close, the festive season often brings extra financial pressure for both personal and business budgets. With some simple planning, you can enjoy the break without unnecessary stress.

Here are some practical tips for stress-free holiday finances:

✨Define a holiday budget with purpose
Allocate funds for bonuses, gifts, celebrations, and any shutdown costs.

✨Stay on top of cash flow
December and January often bring slower customer payments. Forecast early to avoid any cash shortfalls.

✨Prioritise payroll accuracy
Make sure wages are processed on time to keep everything running smoothly.

✨Build resilience for next year
Consider setting up a holiday reserve fund starting in January to help cover future seasonal costs.

✨Close the books with confidence
With Christmas only two weeks away, it is still worthwhile to check in with your accountant or bookkeeper. A quick review now can help tidy up any remaining loose ends and ensure you start the new year on the right foot.

Clear and accurate finances are one of the best gifts you can give your business as the year wraps up.

🎅 Merry Christmas, everyone! 🎄

This week I’m heading to India with my husband and daughter, their very first trip.

It’s not for a holiday, but to say a final goodbye to a young family member who meant so much to us.

It’s one of those reminders that life doesn’t stop for business, and business doesn’t stop for life. Both carry on, even through grief.

I’m so grateful for my clients and my incredible team who have wrapped me in support, and made it possible to step away knowing things are in good hands.

Sometimes the best part of running a business isn’t the numbers or the growth, it’s the people who stand by you in the hardest times. ❤️

We spend to keep up with the iPhone 17… but what about keeping up with the foundations of our business?

Every upgrade promises speed, style, and smarter features.

But just like with technology, business upgrades don’t work unless the foundation is right.

If payroll is delayed, GST is uncertain, or accounts are messy, no new app or system will fix the stress.

At Book and Admin Ltd, we help business owners strengthen their financial foundations, ensuring tidy books, clear cashflow, and compliance that runs smoothly.

Because when the foundation is strong, every other upgrade becomes worthwhile.

In business, we’re often told we must control everything - every detail, every task, every tiny part of the day.

We end up carrying a long list of “shoulds” in our heads:
- Should follow up on every unpaid invoice
- Should finish payroll yesterday
- Should reconcile the bank before tomorrow

Carrying every “should” is exhausting. 😔

It’s like carrying a backpack filled with rocks every day: late payments, messy accounts, overdue payroll, all weighing you down. 🪨

Take a moment. Pause.

Imagine setting some of those rocks down:

☁️ Let worry drift away - stress doesn’t solve anything
🌈 Let perfection go - good enough is sometimes enough
🌟Let frustration pass - mistakes happen
☘️Let the day end - you’ve done what you could

When business owners release the unnecessary weight, even just a little, they start seeing their business with fresh eyes.

The obstacles don’t disappear, but the path forward becomes clearer. Take a breath and notice one weight lifting off your shoulders.

If your backpack feels too heavy, could you use some help?

When business owners first come to me, they’re often tired and weighed down. Their books are behind, GST is due, payroll feels complicated, and there’s always that pile of paperwork staring at them.

That’s where I step in. I bring order to the chaos, tidying up accounts, keeping everything compliant, making payroll and GST stress-free, and giving cashflow meaning.

The best part is watching the shift. Business owners start sleeping better, they feel confident about their money, and they finally have space to grow their business, knowing their bookkeeping is running smoothly in the background.

That’s what I do at Book and Admin Ltd: give business owners breathing space and peace of mind. 🌿

Picture this: you’re sipping your coffee in December, relaxed. No last-minute panic.

Why? Because you planned. You knew exactly how much cash you’d have, and when.

It’s not magic. It’s just thinking ahead.

Less than 4 months till Christmas. Your cashflow deserves your attention today.
