THE THORNTON JACKET cut in HARRIS TWEED

The Thornton is designed to take on a different expression through cloth and proportion.

Here, it is cut in Harris Tweed, with a traditional jacket length and slightly wider lapel — giving it the character of classic British sporting jackets and old-school tailoring.

The cut is deliberate. Tailored through the shoulder and sleeve, with generosity through the chest to allow comfort and movement without becoming oversized. Through the waist and hips, the silhouette is brought back in and controlled.

The result is relaxed, but still tailored.

the Thornton can take on an entirely different character by changing the cloth and proportions

The design remains the same.
The cloth changes its character.
The proportions change its expression

FOUNDATIONS
Autumn / Winter

A look from our FOUNDATIONS collection.

A permanent collection of essential garments developed to form the basis of a considered wardrobe.

Crafted from denim, cotton, tweed, corduroy, wool flannel and other durable natural fibres, each piece is designed for daily wear — becoming more personal over time.

Rather than presenting individual pieces in isolation, FOUNDATIONS explores how cloth, silhouette, proportion, weight and drape work together to create a way of dressing.

How the weight of a trouser relates to a jacket. How different textures sit alongside one another. How proportion and silhouette can change the character of an outfit.

From this understanding, and with our guidance, each client can draw from our fabric library to choose the cloth, colour and silhouette that best suit their body, lifestyle and way of dressing.

The result isn’t a prescribed look, but a wardrobe with its own coherence — a personal design language developed over time.

THE LAURENT TROUSER

Defined by clean lines, discreet pockets and cloth-covered buttons,

the Laurent takes on a different character when cut in more expressive cloths.

Shown here in a soft green wool crêpe — the weight and fluidity of the cloth giving the trouser an elegant drape while maintaining its refined silhouette.

EXPRESSIONS

Introducing a look from EXPRESSIONS—our permanent collection of softly tailored garments.

Cut from a considered blend of wool, linen and silk, the cloth balances freshness, structure and drape. It offers ease and movement without sacrificing shape—relaxed in appearance, yet quietly tailored.

Each look begins as a complete expression, thoughtfully composed in colour, proportion and cloth. Yet every piece is designed to stand on its own, allowing garments to be combined freely and worn in countless ways.

A special thank you to .nz whose idea to collaborate brought this photo shoot to life and helped celebrate the generosity and talent of our local creative community.

We’re fortunate to work alongside exceptional creatives in our region —from photographers and florists to jewellers and makers—each contributing their own craft and perspective to the final result.

Thank you to everyone involved.

I absolutely loathe low-rise trousers.

As a tailor, one of the first things I notice when looking at a pair of trousers is the rise. Most men never think about it, yet it has a profound impact on comfort, proportion and overall appearance.

The rise is simply the distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband.

A small measurement, but one that changes almost everything.

It influences how your trousers sit, how your shirt behaves, how your jacket drapes, and how balanced your proportions appear.

Unfortunately, low-rise trousers have become the norm over the past few decades, driven largely by mass production rather than considered design.

In my opinion, they are one of the worst things to happen to modern menswear.

Snippets from the second-last fitting of a very special bridal commission.

For the past few months, we’ve met every Friday at 3 pm, just as the afternoon sun poured into the atelier.

We came to call them our golden hour fittings.

It’s bittersweet knowing they’ve come to an end. I’ve enjoyed every moment of bringing this gown to life—from the earliest design conversations through months of refinement, fittings and handwork.

At first glance, it appears simple.

Quiet. Restrained. Effortless.

But like the finest garments, its architecture reveals itself slowly.

Beneath its clean lines lies an interior shaped using traditional tailoring techniques—a hand-canvassed foundation that creates seamless structure and gentle lift without ever appearing rigid.

The sleeves and shoulders have been finished entirely by hand, allowing the gown to move with softness while maintaining its form.

The detachable train, finished with a row of hand-covered pearl buttons, is now in its final stages.

Soon, this dress will belong not to the atelier, but to the memories it helps create.

I can’t wait to see it on the wedding day.

To my client—thank you for your trust, your and for allowing me to create something so deeply personal. I am truly grateful.

Only four bridal commissions are undertaken each year from our nelson atielier , allowing the time, care and attention that every bespoke creation deserves.
