🎂 Esolar turned 17 this week!

In 2009, Lance co-founded Esolar with a simple goal: help people across the top of the South take control of their energy. Seventeen years later, we’re still family-run, still based in Tasman, and still just as passionate about doing solar properly.

Today we’re a team of 11, installing off-grid, hybrid, and grid-tied systems for homes, farms, businesses, and community groups across Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough, and the West Coast.

None of this happens without you. Thank you to every client who has trusted us with their home or business, to our suppliers and partners, and to our amazing team who show up every day and do the job right.

Here’s to the next chapter of clean, reliable, independent energy for our region. ☀️

Now, excuse us while we eat some cake 🍰

🏆 We’re thrilled to share that Esolar has been named Most Outstanding Established Business at the 2026 David Awards!

The Davids, run by NZBusiness magazine, celebrate the best of New Zealand’s small businesses, so being recognized alongside so many inspiring Kiwi companies (and being a finalist for Most Innovative Business too) means a great deal to us.

Since 2009, we’ve been doing things a little differently: education over sales, quality over shortcuts, and systems built to last. From off-grid homes in the back blocks to community halls that keep the lights on when the grid goes down, every job is about giving people real energy independence.

This award belongs to our incredible team, the people behind every install, design, phone call and site visit. And to our clients across Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough and the West Coast: thank you for trusting a family-run local business with your energy future. 💛☀️

Here’s to the next chapter.

Proud to see our fleet featured by BYD Nelson ⚡

We've been gradually switching our work vehicles from petrol and diesel to BYD, and charging them with the solar we generate ourselves. The drop in our monthly fuel bill has been noticeable.

It's the same idea we share with our clients every day: make your own energy, use it well, and rely less on the pump.

Thanks to the team at BYD Nelson / The Car Company Nelson for making the switch easy 🙌

Proud to be part of a strong Nelson-Tasman showing at this year's The David Awards: heroes in small business 🌞
We're honoured that Esolar has been named a finalist, alongside fellow local businesses Clean Break, Goover Ltd and Pete's Natural. Even better, Nelson-Tasman businesses make up three of the four national finalists in the Most Innovative Business category.

For us, it's a reflection of the work our team puts in every day helping homes, farms and businesses across Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough and the West Coast move toward energy independence. And it's great to see so much innovation coming out of our region.

Congratulations to all the finalists, and we look forward to celebrating together next week 🥂

We're proud to share that Esolar has been named a finalist in two categories at the 2026 David Awards — Most Outstanding Established Business and Most Innovative Business.

It's a great moment to reflect on what's brought us here: years of straight-talking advice, quality installs, and a team who genuinely cares about doing right by our region's homes and businesses. This recognition belongs to our whole crew — and to the clients who've trusted us with their energy independence along the way.

Winners are announced on 8th October — wish us luck! Thank you to everyone who's been part of the Esolar journey so far. 🌞
