A quick one for the dads that follow us as we sign off for another week, and rip into the new one!

I hope all of you dads out there had a bloody good day with the fam! Back to work tomorrow!

Just remember there’s always another day to get the work done.

Book the time off for your kids’ cross country, school productions, sports days, rugby games and what not!

It doesn’t matter how much money you go out and make, you can’t buy back those moments and memories.

Your kids will NEVER forget that you were there.

But that the client you prioritised to install their heat pump, or fix that leaking tap for… I can guarantee you’ll soon become a distant memory to them!

For me?

Family.
Physical & mental wellbeing.
Then business.

It’s bloody easy to get those priorities around the wrong way when you’re running a business. We’ve all done it. Sh*t….i still f**k this up! Getting there though….but no one can crack this all of the time!

Build a business that gives you a life! Not one that takes it away.

The work will still be there tomorrow.
The kids won’t stay kids forever.

I started Recharge Retreats a few years back for one simple reason.

Most blokes don’t act on their mental health until they hit rock bottom. They bury their head in the sand, crack on, and tell themselves they’re all good.

I want to catch it early. And I want lads to not feel weird about getting some help.

Most people don’t have a “busy” problem. They have a priorities, or boundaries, problem.

Here at Recharge, we run retreats on our private family farm in Taranaki where we do some cool s**t, slow things down, and get our focus dialled back in on the important stuff.

Personal. Business. Or most often... both.

My passion is helping lads take that overwhelmed, cluster-f**k of a headspace, calm it down, reset, build a plan, and then execute it together with support.

A bit about me...
I’m a Plumber, Gasfitter and Drainlayer of 25 years. Alongside Tess, my wife, we started, scaled and sold a thriving plumbing business.
And I burnt myself out big time in the process.
Tess booked me onto a men’s wellness retreat up North. It was a game changer, and Recharge Retreats was born.

These days Tess and I run Recharge Group, our accounting and advisory business dedicated to the trades industry, with clients all over NZ.

But these retreats are something I bloody love doing, and I need to do more of them.
So what do we actually do?

Hunt • Fish • Ice Baths • Breathwork • Cook Over Fire • Sausage & Salami Making • Knife Making • Bush • Motorbikes • Golf • Massage (not by me) plus we spend time working out what’s important and building a plan.

We even learn about meditation, yoga, the nervous system and what the hell all that’s about.

And importantly... No weird s**t.

You don’t need to own a business.
You don’t need to be a tradie.
You don’t need to be at rock bottom.

You just need an open mind and a willingness to take a few days out.

Hey folks!

Last week we got amongst it with a room full of business owners for a day of planning, learning, brainstorming, and networking.

There’s always something new to learn, and having a day like this once or twice a year helps unlock so many ideas.

It helps you narrow in on what the next 6–12 months need to look like, what the priorities are, and where to put your focus and energy.

This day was led by the weapons from nextAdvisory with an epic digital marketing session from Roimata at Burst Digital

In the next few months, Tess and I will be hosting our very own business planning, learning and networking day for tradies, and we’d love to have you on board!

Whether you are a thriving business, a struggling business, have been in the game for years, or are just getting started... you simply CANNOT shift the needle without investing in yourself and some business development.

Help us raise $25,000 to support our Taranaki Tradies!

We are pumped to be putting on the Recharge Golf Day again this year!

Friday 30th October!

In 2024, we pulled the tournament together in just 3 weeks and raised nearly $14,000 for tradies when they need it most. This time, we've given ourselves 4 months....so we're going all out to build up a massive haul of raffle and auction items for charity.

Our goal this year is $25,000.

We've got 36 teams locked and loaded, with 144 players hitting Te Ngutu Golf course ready to battle it out (and spend up large on raffles and auctions along the way!). It might be a wee bit slow with that many players out there... but it's going to be a bloody good day, all in support of our Taranaki Tradies. I'm sure we will all keep ourselves occupied in between shots.

We know it's tough out there right now, so every contribution is genuinely appreciated, and we'll make sure everyone knows about your support on the day. Keep an eye out, we'll be reaching out to Taranaki businesses over the next couple of weeks too.
