🎙️📻 This week on The MOST FM 100.4, Arun Chaudhari and Jack Irving discussed a range of key topics impacting the business and wider regional economy.
🏦 TSB & Heartland Bank proposed merger
There has been mixed feedback and a range of views across the community. The Taranaki Chamber would like to ensure accurate information is available, as some of what is circulating is incorrect.
The Chamber is looking to facilitate an interview with the Toi Foundation Chair to help clarify facts, reduce confusion, and provide another clear channel of communication for the business community.
⚡ Energy & LNG developments
The recent announcement of a proposed LNG terminal in Taranaki has also generated a wide range of views. As with any major energy development, opinions differ, but there is recognition of the importance of energy resilience for New Zealand’s future.
From an industry perspective, LNG globally operates to very high safety standards and has strong safety records. Locally, Port Taranaki already stores LPG as part of its services to the country.
There is also ongoing commitment to transitioning toward renewable energy, while ensuring reliability and affordability remain part of the national energy mix. The key is informed discussion, expert input, and long-term thinking focused on opportunity and sustainability.
🤝 There is a shared view that government and political parties need to work together to support future-focused decisions that benefit all New Zealanders and create new opportunities for growth.
