After our Greenway family post the other day, the Okato and District Historical Society had reached out and shared a few more photos with us.

These show the Greenway’s Store in Okato through the 1970s and 1980s, including when the more modern shop was built onto the front of the original house.

Turns out the original store and building is still there today! (see the last photo).

Greenway’s Store was the first shop in Okato, so it is pretty special seeing another piece of its story.

This is exactly why local historical societies matter.

They keep these stories, photos and connections from being lost.

Primo is proud to support not only the Okato Districts Historical Society, but also the Eltham District Historical Society Inc and the New Plymouth Genealogy Society to ensure the work they do keeping local history alive continues.

When your internet sponsorship comes with naming rights to a kiwi, you know you’ve peaked as a local business. Rewi is clearly the cutest Primo team member and we will not be taking questions. 🥝

The awesome team over at Primo support TKT and over 100 other organisations around Taranaki with free internet, and have been doing so for years!

We are so grateful for their support, and having free wifi at our office makes those admin jobs that much easier.

Another cool thing about Primo is that they have multiple webcams placed around Taranaki, which is a great way to check out the local weather before we head out into the field.

You can check out Primo and sign up for their mobile and internet plans at https://www.primo.nz/nz.

Today is World Environment Day 🌱

Did you know over half of Primo’s network sites are solar powered?

Around 85 of our 150 sites run with help from the sun, which is handy because it seems to be one of the only vendors that has not sent us a price increase lately.

We have been using solar for over 15 years now. Back then, panels were around $3.50 per watt. These days they are closer to 60 cents per watt.

That per watt price is the important bit. Solar has got cheaper, panels have got bigger, and batteries have got better, which has helped us keep upgrading rural sites as the network has grown.

It also means many of our rural sites are not relying on mains power. So when storms, outages or emergencies hit, they are built to keep running instead of dropping offline the moment the power goes out.

People do not often think about the energy it takes to run broadband, but it matters. Fibre is generally the most efficient, with fixed wireless not far behind.

We have also started making changes to our vehicle fleet, with three hybrid vehicles now in the mix, and newer model utes helping improve efficiency where we can.

Better power options, more resilient sites, more efficient vehicles, and good broadband in rural places so people can do more from home, the farm, or their place of business instead of heading into town.

This is why local matters.

With today’s Spark outage affecting homes and businesses across Taranaki, it’s a reminder that when the internet goes down, it’s not just annoying.

Businesses can lose EFTPOS, phones, bookings, emails, and the ability to serve customers. Every hour offline can mean real money lost.

Everyone can have outages, but having a local team that can respond quickly and communicate properly makes a big difference.

Primo isn’t affected by today’s outage, and our team is right here in Taranaki, ready to help homes and businesses stay connected.

Home fibre available from $65 per month.

Business fibre available from $105 per month, with wireless backup options to help keep you online even when the fibre is down.

🚨 PRIMO ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

Following the success of our previous horse related initiatives, we are pleased to confirm that another horse related initiative is currently underway.

Further details will be released shortly.

Also, we sell broadband from $65 and mobile plans from $20.

We probably should have mentioned that sooner.

Thank you for your continued support during this exciting time.

Huge congratulations to Novotel New Plymouth for being named Hotel of the Year at the 2026 ALL Accor Pacific Franchise Awards.

Not just one award either. They walked away with:

Hotel of the Year
Iconic Brand Delivery
Responsible Hospitality Award

Absolutely massive effort from the whole Novotel team and a proud moment for Taranaki.

We like to think a tiny bit of Primo broadband magic helped things run smoothly behind the scenes. Probably not enough to take credit for the trophies, but we’ll happily sit quietly in the corner pretending we helped. 😂

Congrats team. Awesome to see a local business representing Taranaki on the Pacific stage. 🙌

Apparently building useful stuff in Taranaki runs in the family.

The Greenway side of Matt and Kelly’s family has been here in Taranaki since the early 1880s.

They built the first ever cowshed as pictured here in the Puniho area.

They also built the first general store in Ōkato, pictured here with our gt gt grandmother standing proudly out the front.

Then a few generations later, Primo came along and built Taranaki’s first wireless broadband network.

Since then, we’ve also been the first to build fibre broadband into places like Egmont Village, Parihaka, Ōhawe and Tataraimaka.

Different generations. Different tools.

Same habit of building what Taranaki needs.

👑 HAPPY KING'S BIRTHDAY 👑

We said we'd be getting whoever was available.

So we found Harry.

As someone with extensive experience taking time away from royal duties, he'd like to remind everyone that Primo is closed today.

Enjoy the public holiday.

We'll be back tomorrow.
