"Reflecting on a decade at BOON. I am incredibly grateful for the professional growth, the challenges overcome, and the colleagues I've worked alongside. Thank you to my team and mentors for making the last 10 years an incredible journey.

I have particularly enjoyed the Irvine house project, and the trust the clients gave me in helping curate their dream home. Another memorable project was being involved in the design team for the Matamata Open Country Stadium, and seeing a project realised after 25 years of community vision and fundraising."

Meet Murali, our Design Director, and someone who believes the best architecture starts with people, their identity and their stories.

With more than 30 years of experience, ask Murali what makes a project work and chances are the kōrero will come back to whakawhanaungatanga. Sitting around the table with a client. Listening to kōrero, asking pātai, understanding what matters. He knows trust isn't established at the beginning of a project but built over time - many of his relationships having grown well beyond a single piece of work.

His long-standing relationships with iwi and hapū have reinforced the importance of listening carefully and treating the stories entrusted to a project with respect, to create places where identity can be expressed.

For Murali, a successful piece of architecture isn't one that just works well, it's one where people can see part of themselves and their story reflected in the built fabric.

The TSB Showplace just turned 100 - and the main foyer has had quite the transformation to mark the occasion.

BOON has been the design partner for the Showplace since 1976, making this one of our longest-running and most cherished relationships. The 2025/26 foyer upgrade is the final piece of a ten-year masterplan, and seeing it complete in the building's centenary year makes it all the more special.

Meet Glenn.

From concept through to the end detail, Glenn is someone who cares about getting it right at every stage. Not just the design, the process that makes the design possible.

Over 20 years in the industry, working across sporting and recreation facilities, civic projects, and culturally complex briefs for private, corporate, and local government clients throughout New Zealand. The common theme? Spaces that carry a genuine sense of place.

Glenn's view is that good buildings come from good relationships. You can't shortcut the conversations, the site visits, the stakeholder meetings that don't go the way anyone planned. That's where the real brief gets written.

As Managing Director, he brings that same collaborative instinct into how BOON runs, from early ideas all the way through to construction delivery.

When he's not on site or in a forum, you'll find him on the trails or deep in local politics. 🤙
