5 years of Ems at Te Pae Roa!

Five years, countless deep dives, plenty of “stuff and things” 😂, a few “umm… tell me more” moments, and of course, swear words with a smile and a giggle 🤭

We asked our kaimahi: What’s one word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of Ems?

The answers say it all — menemene, facilitation queen, discipline, deep dives, clarity, possibility, constructive movement… and someone who creates the conditions for people to stay in the light when the kōrero gets difficult.

E mihi nui ana, Ems, for five years of bringing your whakaaro, humour, wisdom and heart to Te Pae Roa. 💜

Here’s to the next chapter! 🥂✨

Intergenerational thinking asks us to zoooooom ouuut 🔍 Imagine if every decision was made with a pēpi sitting at the table 👶💭 Would we think differently about housing? About education? About the environment? About the opportunities we're creating?

Sometimes the best way to plan for the future is to picture exactly who we're planning it for.

We asked the team to finish this sentence: "The future of Te Tai Tokerau looks like..." 🤔 We reckon this answer sums it up pretty well 🙂‍↕️

A thriving future isn't something we build alone. The biggest shifts happen when we stop asking "how can I make a difference?" and start asking "how can we make a difference together?" 🤝

Progress has never been the work of one person, one organisation, or one kaupapa - which is a beautiful thing! It comes from backing each other's strengths, sharing knowledge generously, and recognising that when one part of our hapori succeeds, we all move forward 🚀

What does the future of Te Tai Tokerau look like to you? Let us know in the comments 💭👇

Some of the most powerful whakaaro from our tūpuna remind us to dream bigger than our current circumstances 💭 To have a vision for what could be, and then do the work to bring it closer, one step, one decision, one generation at a time. At the same time, we're reminded not to take for granted what has already been achieved. The things our people fought for, built, protected, and handed down to us need nurturing too.

The dreams of yesterday became the realities of today. The question is: what realities are we creating for tomorrow? 🌱✨

We asked the team what is one thing every whānau should have... and what stood out to us wasn't the differences in these answers, but the common thread running through all of them 🤝🙂‍↕️

A sense of belonging. A sense of safety. A sense of connection to who you are, where you come from, and what could be possible for the generations that follow 🌿 What would be on your list? 💭👇
