Some wines never reach the shelf.

Our Waiheke and Awatere Valley single-vineyard wines are made in small quantities and often sell out before they reach the cellar door. The Five Hills Wine Club gives our members first access — three deliveries a year, six bottles each, hand-selected by winemaker Ashton Hendriks, with free delivery anywhere in New Zealand.

Members also enjoy 10% off all wine, a private annual tasting at the winery, and a complimentary treat from the chef whenever they dine at the Verandah.

Two terroirs. Two very different wines. One consistent result: and we're quietly over the moon about it.
Our 2024 Reserve Chardonnay landed 95 pts Gold from Stephen Wong MW The Real Review. Our 2022 Syrah and Five Hills (Waiheke) both scored 5 Stars / 95 pts from Wine Orbit And our 2021 Sauvignon Blanc from the Awatere Valley took home Gold Medal & Trophy — Best Marlborough Wine in Show at the CWSA.
We make wine on Waiheke Island and in the Awatere Valley because we believe great wine comes from great place. It's nice when others agree.

🏆 Cable Bay Vineyards has been named one of the Top Wineries of New Zealand 2026 by . This one feels especially meaningful — only a handful of Waiheke Island wineries appear on the list, and we're proud to be named among them. We grow in two regions: the warm, mineral soils of Waiheke Island — Syrah, Malbec, Chardonnay — and the cool Awatere Valley in Marlborough, where our Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir find their voice. Two regions, one philosophy: wines that reflect the land they come from. Nearly 10,000 wines tasted blind. No labels, no names. Just what's in the glass. Huge credit to our winemaker Ashton Hendriks, for his commitment to drawing deeper terroir expression from these vines, vintage by vintage. Thank you to the entire Cable Bay team — every hand that has gone into making these wines. And thank you to The Real Review for recognising that work. Our wines are available at selected restaurants and stores nationwide — in our cellar door and our online store, Link in bio.

Our vineyards are not just sustained, but carefully regenerated — each season strengthening the Waiheke soils that shape our wines.

Between the vines, balance is restored: sheep grazing returns nutrients to the land, enriching soils and quietly rebuilding the surrounding ecosystem.

Regenerative viticulture in practice.

The Perfect Pairing: Fireplace, Wines & $10 Pizza

We believe our award-winning wines are best enjoyed with a side of wood-fired goodness. Every Sunday and Monday, purchase any bottle of wine and enjoy a $10 pizza. Sip, slice, and soak in the views—it’s the best deal on the island.

Exclusively for the Sunday chill and Monday thrill.

CABLE BAY SYRAH 2021 — WAIHEKE ISLAND

Refined, expressive, and quietly powerful, our 2021 Syrah captures the essence of Waiheke’s coastal terroir with precision and elegance.

Awarded 95 Points GOLD by Cameron Douglas MS, alongside 93 points from The Real Review and 92 points from James Suckling, this vintage is a compelling expression of both place and craftsmanship.

Layered aromatics of dark berries, plum, dried florals, and pepper unfold into notes of violet, clove, and subtle mineral complexity. The palate is finely structured, with silky tannins and poised concentration, leading to a long, harmonious finish.

A wine of balance and restraint, offering immediate appeal while promising graceful evolution through 2026–2031+.

Elegant. Distinctive. Unmistakably Waiheke.

Steam in the air. Barrels prepped. Tanks gleaming.
We’re officially harvest-ready, and there’s no better feeling for Ashton, our winemaker, than standing at the edge of a season bursting with promise, passion, energy, and a touch of magic. 💫
Let it begin.
